Places outside Copenhagen _ Hillerød
The introduction
In this article I want to tell you about another place outside Copenhagen called Hillerød, which is a must see place there.
Hillerød
Hillerød is another place outside Copenhagen which is worth visiting for the obvious reasons. The main reason is the stunning Frederiksborg Castle and its surroundings. It’s not very far from Copenhagen, it’s like 45 minutes drive from the city to Hillerød.
The Frederiksborg castle was the reason why I went to Hillerød. It’s the 17th century castle and it’s just huge and very beautiful. It’s situated on small islands and there’s a lake all around the castleand you can have a boat trip around it with some stops, where you can just get off the boat and walk on the ground. Well, I wanted to have that boat trip, however, I waited half an hour for it to come to the station and then there were so many people on the boat, that there was no space and I couldn’t wait for another half an hour and I just walked to the entrance of the castle, which was pretty far away from the point where I was.
Frederiksborg is a renaissance castle and you will understand that the very first thing you glance at the castle. Its architecture is unremarkable and then you see the baroque garden and you are just frozen in one place, because the garden is something unforgettable, where you can just walk endlessly enjoying every bit of it.
The city is very large and there are plenty to see. The very first thing I saw there was the Hillerød Kirke, which had this lovely garden full of flowers and then there’s the whole cemetery around and the people were going there and putting flowers, etc.
After that, you get to Torvet, where there’s a Vivaldi café in the middle and it’s round shaped and that’s why it’s pretty interesting. And then you can either get to the lakeside and walk to the right towards the Bymuseet Hillerød, or you can just get to the Faergen Frederiksborg and get a boat trip to the Frederiksborg castle.
If you don’t want to get to the boat trip, you can go to the left and follow the narrow path called Sostien, which I did, and it’s not a waste of time either, because then you will get to this green park, where people sit on benches and there’s a fountain and everything, and then there are great views of the castle from there.
