Why did you choose to go to Heidelberg, Germany?

I found a list of Top 10 Universities in Germany, and Heidelberg was #1. The history of the university dates back to the 14th century and the names of its alumni impresses! So, I decided to give it a try.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I don't get a scholarship.

What is the student lifestyle like in Heidelberg?

It depends on what degree you are getting. As for Master's, it mostly relies on self-study. You are responsible for your academic progress. So, it is up to you which classes to attend.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Heidelberg to other students?

I would definitely recommend Heidelberg to those who prefer living in small towns where the rhythm of life is slower. Heidelberg is also a great place for romantic ones. No surprises! It used to be a centre of Romanticism in Germany. So, if you enjoy getting lost amid old narrow lanes and fog, you're sure to like it!

What is the food like?

So far, I've spotted Penny, Aldi, Kaufland, Edeka and Rewe. There are also small shops here and there.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Heidelberg?

To find accommodation in Heidelberg is a real challenge. And, unfortunately, you can't do that before your arrival because most people who rent a room or an apartment want to meet you which is simply impossible. And when you meet, it may be like an audition and I don't really know how to impress and demonstrate your potential of a good roommate or flatmate. There's an option to skype but it isn't that common.

How much does it cost to live in Heidelberg?

It depends on what you expect your living to be like. If you don't mind sharing your accommodation with someone or "someoneS" and remote areas are ok for you, then it'll be cheaper. But in any case, it won't be less than 250-300 € per month.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Every land has its accent, so does Baden-Württemberg. There are language courses available and you can choose the time which suits you best.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Heidelberg from your city?

By bus or by BlaBlaCar (or Mitfahrgelegenheit) definitely! Trains are extremely expensive in Germany.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Heidelberg?

I'm not an experienced "night-goer" but there's a place I'd recommend. It's "Drug Store" in Kettengasse. What can you do there? Play chess, drink alcohol, watch footbal, and smoke! Absolutely authentic.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

The castle is a must. The view from there is breathtaking!

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Heidelberg in the future?

I'd advise to get an umbrella, a raincoat and rubber boots! The weather is quite rainy, windy and wet.
