Experience in Gyor, Hungary by Gergő
What is it like to live in Gyor? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Feels smallish, although it's one of the biggest ones in Hungary. It has a lot of culture and the atmosphere is rather nice. I would definitely recommend it for someone who wants to visit Hungary. Living-wise is a lot better than in Budapest for example.
What is the student lifestyle like in Gyor?
Pretty good, it's a university town, so there are plenty of places to go out to, although it can feel a bit dead sometimes.
How much does it cost to live in Gyor?
Not a lot, Hungary is really cheap. Although Győr is in the western part, which is a bit more expensive, but it's still ridiculously cheap for Western Europeans.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Gyor? Is there any advice you can give?
I haven't had any experiences in this field, but there are loads of flats to rent.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Food is okay, there are good restaurants in the city and around it.
What places would you recommend visiting in Gyor?
The historical city centre and the town hall.
Is it good to eat out in Gyor? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
The gyros places are quite cheap, but we don't eat out a lo; it's nothing like in Spain.
Is the nightlife good in Gyor? Where is good to go?
There are good places near the university and there are gigs to go to every week.
What advice would you give future students heading to Gyor?
It's cheap, nice, quite clean and it's near to Vienna and Budapest (an hour an a half by train), so it's easy to visit them.
