What is it like to live in Greifswald? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Greifswald is a small city in the north-east of Germany. For studies it is a great city as there is not too many distraction, but yet there are some cozy univercity clubs, bars and cafés and the beach! And as most of the students are from Berlin the atmosphere in teh inner city is very open. Only when you go to the outer parts of the city and suburbs you may face some closed mindedness and racism. I did not experience that, but heard of some stories. I loved to study in Greifswald and can recommend it!

What is the student lifestyle like in Greifswald?

Cozy. As the city is small you meet your friends everywhere, what feels like home. For the parties you do not need to make appointments as everyone will be there anyway. For the morning coffee you have some nice cafés and the prices for party and living are not too high.

How much does it cost to live in Greifswald?

Not so much. As there are not so many options to spend money and prices for a coffee for example are quite low, it is a good city for students.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Greifswald? Is there any advice you can give?

Well, it is not easy, but if you check the university´s black board, you should find a room in a shared flat ;)

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

To be honest I do not know much about the local dishes in Greifswald. There is grilled and cooked fish as Greifswald is a city close to the Baltic Sea and fish burgers (Fischbrötchen), teh last zou need to try directly at the beach! I really miss them!

What places would you recommend visiting in Greifswald?

Greifswald is not very big, but has a beautiful historical port, a big church and a beautiful historical city center. For a big amd fun beach you have to go to Lubmin and I also recommend to visit the cities Stralsund and Rostock and the islands Usedom and Rügen. The islands are beautiful and have awsome white beaches and the two cities have also their charm and a gigantic ocean´s museum.

Is it good to eat out in Greifswald? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

As a student I never had a lot of money, so I cooked myself or with friends, so I cannot recommend a specific restaurant.

Is the nightlife good in Greifswald? Where is good to go?

There are several student´s clubs, almost every faculty has one and besides that there are also secret clubs, that change from time to time, but everyone has to find his or her favourite ;)

What advice would you give future students heading to Greifswald?

Discover and enjoy!
