Erasmus Experience in Graz, Austria by Paula
Why did you choose to go to Graz, Austria?
Because it was an opportunity for me to discover a new country and now I am really proud of my decision!
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I arrived here on the 27th of September and I am going to leave on the 12th of February more or less.
Because of the country I have received 1200€ (4. 13 months - 300€/month) and then 1000€ from AGAUR (only for students in Catalonia with minimum B2 English level).
What is the student lifestyle like in Graz?
There are a lot of students, it is a really good place to do an Erasmus.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Graz to other students?
Of course!
What is the food like?
Really similar to the food in Catalonia, it is really good! (I love eating! )
Was it difficult to find your accommodation in Graz?
Not really. There are a lot of dormitories but you have to find it as soon as possible!
How much does it cost to live in Graz?
My accommodation: 250€/month, but the majority of the dormitories are more expensive. The daily life is expensive too but not much more than in Spain.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
There are a lot of language courses at the University, which is really useful for Erasmus students. Anyway, English is enough in the majority of the situations.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Graz from your city?
Barcelona - Vienna by airplane and then Vienna - Graz by bus (Flixbus).
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Graz?
Party rooms of dormitories are so much better than discos!
And for eating? Can you recommend any good restaurants in Graz?
Area5 is and it will always be my favourite place to eat! I really love the food and the prices are amazing! Tap water is free and the plates are between 3, 5 and 6€!
In Lendplatz there is a really nice restaurant with typical food which I like too. It is called Zur Steirerstub'n.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Schlossberg, Kunsthaus, Eggenberg, etc. But you can travel a lot and the prices are really good. For example:
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Graz in the future?
Enjoy every single day!
