Graz- The marvelous Saturday trip (1)

Hello all!

Saturday = Sightseeing!

Let me share with you what is worth seeing in Graz. You don't have to visit all these places on one day like I did, but my scholarship lasts for only 2 months, consequently I wanted to do my best, and just walk from morning till night and visit as much as my legs allow me to.

On a beautiful sunny day, after a long and revitalizing sleep after a busy workweek I got on tram 1 (accurately on E1 replacement bus) right from front of my dorm, and traveled till Mariatrost (the final station). There is a famous bazilika for pilgrims, called Mariatrost. It's a baroque style Roman-Catholic church built on the top of a hill called Purberg. The view is spectacular from the churchyard.

Before leaving the bazilika I shoot a last picture of the view, and then I went further towards my second station. If you want to read more about the history of Mariatrost, here you can.

The next stop was Mozartgasse. University life begins here!

Like every student, I am curious about how student life is abroad, so I got on bus 58 and went till Uni Graz campus. There's a big centre for different departments of Karl-Franzens Universität Graz from Law School to the Chemistry Institute, and Philosophy to Zoology. Parks, immense bike storage places, mensa, garden, benches, trees. The buildings were not built in the same style. For example Law Department has a modern, almost futuristic design, but the Physics Institute was built in a very old-time style.

After these two stops I started walking in the direction of the city centre and old town, climbed a hill, enjoyed the panorama from the top, visited a famous pastry shop in the old town, and I finished my day at the beautiful Eggenberg Castle, part of UNESCO World Heritage. More information in the next post.

P. S. Sorry for the quality of the pictures, I'm not a professional photographer.

Thank you for reading, bis später! Dóra.
