Erasmus Experience in Gliwice, Poland
Why did you decide to go to Gliwice, Poland?
Complete coincidence.
How long was your scholarship? How much did you get to meet your expenses?
It was for 5 months but I then extended it for another 3 months. I got 300 euros from my home university but I only received 80% of it. Besides, my family sent me around the same amount.
How is student life in Gliwice?
The privilege given to Erasmus students in order to help them pass the exams can be experienced in a very high standard of life. Night life is very cheap and satisfying.
Would you recommend the city and the University to other students?
I definitely recommend it. You will not regret it.
How is the country's food?
There are some fast food restaurants in different parts of the city, such as McDonald's, a few pizzerias, kebab restaurants and a KFC at the Arena Mall. That's enough to live for one or two semesters.
You can also try your cooking skills out and share some traditional dishes with others.
Was it difficult to find accommodation?
In comparison to Turkey and Western Europe, living in Gliwice is quite cheap. If you find living with three other people difficult, you can stay in a room with one or two people depending how lucky you are.
How much does it cost to live in Gliwice?
It's the cheapest Erasmus destination ever!
How is the language? Did you go to any course at the University?
It's not enough to take a Polish language course at the university but it does suffice to learn some basic sentences. An intensive course could be a good option.
What is the cheapest way to go to Gliwice from your city?
If you are travelling with a large amount of luggage, Lufthansa offers flights from Turkey at reasonable prices, if you book early.
Which places would you recommend to go over to party in Gliwice?
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday you can go to Klub Zoom.
And on Friday, Saturday and Sunday: Hemingway, Gwarek and Cuba Libre...
Which restaurants do you recommend?
Alanya kebab, Sultan kabab, pizza Dominium and there is an Italian restaurant near the dormitory. In the city centre, there is a McDonald’s and a KFC at the Arena Mall.
What kind of cultural places are there to be seen?
Gliwice Radio Station... Nothing more :)
Any advice that you want to give to future students in Gliwice?
Just go and see it yourself.
