Why I love Glasgow.

Hi everyone, this is my first attempt at writing a blog. This blog post I will give some of the reasons why I loved living in Glasgow for almost 6 months.

First, let me introduce myself. My name is Sylvester and I am a law student at Tilburg University in the Netherlands. Since my study involves international and european law, a study abroad would be a great addition to my study. As well as being an amazing personal experience. Glasgow was the best option as the university was very interesting and fulfilled my requirements for a proper univeristy. But more about that in another blog post.

Glasgow was my number one choice to stay during my time abroad. I had heard a lot of positivity about this city and it looked gorgeous and had a ton of stuff to do for students.

Let me start my list of reasons by stating that Glasgow is a student-friendly city. It accommodates thousands of students and everywhere are pubs and places for students to hang out. The city is also full with appartments for students all over the world. Everywhere you look there are foreign students. The city is well adapted and provides all the necessary things a student wants. Good (and cheap) food, great drinks and a lot of beer!!

Besides being full of students, I knew Glasgow was a big city. Much, much bigger than the city I live in. But Glasgow does not feel full of people. Streets such as Buchanan Street are packed with people on a Saturday afternoon, but it never feels as 'too much'. The size of Glasgow did not bother me as well. Taxis are not that expensive, busses drive almost everywhere and than there is the subway. I had the luck to live in a student appartment close to the subway, university and the city centre and near a subway entry. With all these types of public transportation Glasgow feels a lot smaller than it actually is.

For those who are looking for a  city packed with places to visit and discover, Glasgow is also your place to be. There are museums, squares, parks, cathedrals and many more places  to visit. I have spend my first two weeks discovering Glasgow, only to find out that I needed more than these weeks to go everywhere and to see it all. Most of them are free as well, which is convenient for us students.

This is just a small part of 'why I love Glasgow'. Perhaps the best reason to go to Glasgow is to be surprised. I know I was surprised when I arrived in Glasgow. Everywhere I went the city knew how to surprise me in the best way possibile!

Want to know more? Feel free to ask!

Cheers,

Sylvester
