What is the student lifestyle like in Girona?

Student lifestyle in Girona is very good. There are living a lot of students all over the city. Although I have been studying in a hospital and at the scientific parc (Parc Cientific) and didn't study at the university I met a lot of new friends. Every Thursday night all students go out to party in the popular clubs.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Girona to other students?

Yes! A beautiful city with a lovely, historical center. A lot of culture and the surroundings are beautiful as well. By train you can travel to Barcelona, which is just 80km down south. 30 km up north ar the Pyrenees and the French border, 30 km to the east is the costa brava with a lot of beaches. No matter what season, there will be a lot to do.

What is the food like?

Like in every European country, you can get your favorite brands at the supermarket. A popular place to eat is König (several restaurants in the city) which is payable and delicious. It is recommended by many students.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Girona?

I would recommend http://pisocompartido.com/. Good luck!

How much does it cost to live in Girona?

Look at the website above. Eating, partying and sporting can be as expensive as you want.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Before coming to Girona I have been studying Spanish. In Girona I found out that a vast majority of the people speaks Catalan. Signs on the street, products in the supermarket and most newspapers are in Catalan. Although people do speak Spanish, they prefer Catalan.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Girona from your city?

The bus is acceptabel for circa 1 euro per ride. Although you can cross the city by foot in 40 minutes.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Girona?

Several clubs are close to eachother (Lux, Mondo, Pixel, Blow, Platea). Have a look around, ask other students and have a good time. People start going out after midnight. A regular beer in a club costs about 4 euro's, a mix-drink 6-8 euro's.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Girona?

König!

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Have a look at Wikipedia. I would recommend the Barri Vell, have a walk on the old city wall, the cathedral (free entrance on sunday), a walk through the Devesa parc. If you like hiking you could go for a walk to the castel of Sant Miquel (approximately 10 km) which offers you a splendid view over the city.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Girona in the future?

Enjoy!
