Visit to Gudauri

Well, after some driving, we arrived in Gudauri, where people go to ski. It's a winter resort and when the snow falls there, many people go there and enjoy skiing and snowboarding and hang out with their friends or family. I hadn't been to Gudauri until then and, to be honest, I expected something more than just a regular place there. And I noticed, that they had this large supermarket called Smart supermarkets, which was a great thing to be there for people, because there's a big difference between the large supermarkets and small markets. And you can shop comfortably and easily in large supermarkets. Well, there was not any snow there in Gudauri at that time and it was not that beautiful as it is during the snow and the season of skiing. If you want to buy something good on your way to Kazbegi, you should stop in Gudauri and visit this Smart supermarket. There's also an ATM machine of Sakartvelos Banki (bank of Georgia), I guess, and if you need to draw some money, you can do it there.

About Gudauri

So, Gudauri is a ski resort, where people like to go to ski or have some fun with friends and family and rest and relax. It’s a popular tourist destination and there are many people coming from other countries just to visit Gudauri during the winter season, when there are some competitions and they compete with each other and get to know other people.

Gudauri is a modern ski and snowboar resort in Georgia and it’s a very popular place for extreme sports lovers. It is located on Jvari Pass on the main plateau of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range in Georgia. It’s 120 kilometres far from Tbilisi. There can be snow from November till May, and the average height of the snow can be about 1. 5 metres. Gudauri is located 2000 metres above the sea level, however, there’s still some warm and sunny and calm weather. It’s a really surprising fact, that there were 54 people living in the village in 2014.

The ski season lasts from December to April. And it’s popularity is because of the main road going through Gudauri, I guess.

The very first hotel in Gudauri was built in 1988 and it was called Marco Polo, which is now called “Gudauri” and it is still functioning.

So, the hills in Gudauri offer different types of opportunities to every kind of skier. People ski and snowboard there and they just love it. There are slalom and slalom-giant, super giant and fast track. There’s every kind of skiing pathway according to the FIS.

Gudauri is about 2 hours drive from Tbilisi, so that it’s pretty easy to go there. There are some tours going there and they go there on any hour during the day, I guess. They go early in the morning and late in the afternoon, too, so that it’s not impossible to get to Gudauri whenever you want to.

There are tours in Gudauri in summer, too. There are hiking tours in Truso and Khada, riding horses and others. Nature-lovers love those kinds of things.

There are many different hotels and family hotels in Gudauri, which are pretty well-organised and of high quality, so that it’s not a problem to stay there.

Well, we didn’t really have a chance to stay there for a while, and, besides, it was not snow there at that time of the year or anyone else, and we had a plan to go to Kazbegi then, so that visiting Gudauri would wait a little bit. We just drove through it and that was it.
