Gangtok, third stop of my holiday trip. I have no words to fully describe, how amazing and beautiful this city is, but i will try my best to give you the best written experience of this city.

About Gangtok

A very beautiful city situated on highest mountains. Gangtok is capital city of the state Sikkim, India. It is situated in north india in eastern Himalayan range mountains of Kanchenjungha. Population of Gangtok is around 95, 000. Most of the people are budhhist but you can find people of Hindu, Chritianity, Muslim religion too. Being located on high mountains weather of Gangtok stay cold whole year with temprature goes minus in winters. Even though it is situated on mountains far away from lands, this city is big and you can find everything here.

Where is the city and How do i go there?

Gangtok is situated in eastern Himalayan Mountain range. There is no airport or railway stations near because of the loaction. Government of Sikkim already approved construction of an airport to nearest point to the city and it will start in near future. Till then cars are best to travel there.

Details of transport to Gangtok with fares

Nearest airport is Bagdogra Domestic Airport, you can go by flight to Bagdogra. My flight fare was around 4300 INR (40£) single way trip from Delhi to Bagdogra. After arriving to Bagdogra Airport, it is easy to find cars outside the airport. you can hire 4 seaters to 6 seaters cars as your needs. Car drivers will try to ask for more fare but you need to use your bargaining skills. We have hired 6 seater car in 2500 INR (25£) to Darjeeling because Darjeeling was our first stop, so per my calculation fare to Gangtok must be arround 3500 INR (35£). It is 8 to 10 hours journey because of curvy mountain roads but you will love the scenery on the way.

Where do I live and How do I find a place?

There are plenty of Hotels and Resorts because Gangtok is very popular tourist destination. You can find very good hotels in cheap prices, but i will suggest you go in good Hotels. It will be little costly then cheaper Hotels but services and rooms will be awesome with all facilities and city views. The hotel i stayed was 4 star hotel with facilities like Gym, Hot water 24 hours, Room heaters, complimentry breakfast, TV, internet, and spa with the cost of 2300 INR (23£) per night.

You can very easily find Hotels there. Tell driver and he will take you to good hotels, but i prefer you to book hotels in advance, it will be more cheaper and easier, and during season time hard to get rooms so advance booking is best. you can find and book hotels via internet.

I suggest you to try local food dishes, my favourite was chicken Momos (kind Of Chicken dumplings with their own recipie). If you want to taste some spicy indian food go to Mr. Khan's Biryani house, one of the best Tandoori food restaurant. Cafes are good here serving lattes, mochacinos, and other coffee varieties with hot snacks and yummy cookies.

People are very firendly, helpful and kind. Very polite in talking and never try to thug a tourist. They are very good with tourists.

Night life

Night life in Gangtok is very simple, not for party people. most of everything get closed at 8:30 pm because of weather and location, sun set here very soon. There are few clubs and bars which stays open till late but mostly only on weekend.

My experience in my words

Gangtok is very beautiful and clean city with most amazing locations and places. weather of this city is key to attract people. if you are tired of your daily life and want to spent some time in good weather relaxing in nature, this place is for you. A city situated in lap of mother nature with infinite beauty and peaceful environment. Go there and find real you. Give yourself peace.
