The walls of the city

You cannot miss either in Galway the rests of the walls of the city that were built in 1270. It is very sad that today we can only enjoy some stretches of wall, one of them in the back of Eyre Square Shopping Centre. The reason is that after the sieges of the XVII Century, only a part of the wall survived.

The Spanish Arch was another part of the walls of the city. I am not really sure about why it called like that. Some people say that it makes an allusion to the business relationships Spain and Ireland had in the past. However, others says that in that arch the Spanish survivors of the Spanish Armada were executed.
