Why did you choose to go to Galați, Romania?

My choice was Galați because I expected a country different than the rest of occidental Europe, cheap and with nice places to visit.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

The scholarship was during 6 months approximately, from September to February. I didn't receive any money at all because it was my second studies and my second Erasmus.

What is the student lifestyle like in Galați?

In my situation, it was the final project my goal in Galați. So I had to visit the university once or twice per week to have a meeting with the responsible teacher. The rest of the week I prepared the documentation from home so it was quite independent. The university was older than most of the Spanish ones but it was ok and engineers have several laboratories with good conditions.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Galați to other students?

I recommend it depending on what you are searching for. We were few Erasmus students (10 approx) from Spain, Portugal and Italy so we became a family and was really nice and funny.

What is the food like?

The food is great and cheap, there are a lot of restaurants.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Galați?

When I arrived, my accommodation was a student residence which I don't like at all. It was very close to the university but I decided to change my place and our final accommodation was next to the Danube and was like an apart hotel, very comfortable with double rooms with one bathroom, and general services as kitchen and living room.

How much does it cost to live in Galați?

The accommodation was cheap, less than €150 per month I think. The rest of services were cheap too: food, transport, travel, etc

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

In the city you can talk in English and even in Spanish, most people can understand you. Their language is similar to Italian so it's not hard to understand some words.

I didn't have the choice to receive a language course.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Galați from your city?

From Spain the best is by plane, with low cost companies the flight is economical.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Galați?

There were several restaurants and disco to go out at night, for example S Club. University colleagues could help you there, there are pubs too.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

In Galați the best place to have a walk is along the Danube, there are restaurants. Also there are some streets with colonial buildings, theatre... which are very nice.

In Romania in general there are a lot of places to visit, like Transilvania, Carpatians, Danube, Sibiu, Brasov, etc you can search on tourism guides or internet because there are many trips to enjoy. I really liked it.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Galați in the future?

At first sight it could be a difficult city because of the cultural differences, but if you are adaptable you will enjoy here. Just be careful the places you go and get confident to be safe there.

In winter is soooooo cold!
