Joining the Gator Nation

First, I have to admit upfront that my view is an American looking in on another American city. BUT, with that said, I am from a COMPLETELY different part of the States, with a totally different lifestyle, culture, and climate from Gainesville's Gator Nation (the unofficial official name of UF students and alumni).

Gainesville is a your typical, small American college town....almost all life in the city revolves around students who make up a massive portion of the population there. And, as one of the most popular Universities in the US (remember, in the States university popularity is almost always based on our sports culture and the Gators dominate in a lot of those) the University of Florida has a lot to offer, both in terms of student life as well as in academics. Probably the best feature, though, is the location....right in the heart of North Central Florida, the Gulf of Mexico is only 45 minutes away to the West and the Atlantic coast only an hour and a half to the East. Take time to explore the amazing opportunities for outdoor recreation the sub-tropical climate, the plethora of natural springs and the proximity to natural parks affords you. And of course, there's always the possibility for weekend road trips (if you have a car, find a friend who does, do car sharing or are really creative with public transit) to places like Savannah and Atlanta (Georgia), Pensacola, Orlando (DISNEY!), Tampa/St. Petersburg and Miami.

Just be prepared, the mascot isn't the Gators (short for "alligators") for nothing!
