Experience in Florence, Italy by Edoardo
What is it like to live in Florence? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Florence is a small city you can get around by foot, but it's a great place, full of resources. You can find a bit of everything: art, landscapes, piazzas, night life, libraries and parks. Often, even the people from Florence get bored of doing the same old things in the city (the most advertised), but in reality, if you pay attention or take the recommendations from people who know the city, it's city full of interesting things to do (look at: www.firenzenotte.it, https://riscoprifirenze.wordpress.com/, www.toctocfirenze.it).
What is the student lifestyle like in Florence?
The student lifestyle isn't very well organised. Sometimes you can find university parties going on in the university buildings. There aren't any student discounts in the museums, cinemas or local establishments.
How much does it cost to live in Florence?
It's full of places to get a good sandwich for cheap and there are university canteens. There are a lot of delicious restaurants, too, but they're expensive.
What is the food like there? What are some of your favourite dishes?
Bistecca alla fiorentina is a typical Florentine dish. You'll find it in all of the best restaurants in Tuscany. Il panino con lampredotto is a cheap option and you'll see a lot of it in street food stalls.
What places would you recommend visiting in Florence?
Piazzale Michelangelo, Fiesole, Piazza santa Croce, Piazza Santo Spirito, Piazza Duomo, Bellosguardo, Piazza Savonarola (but only in winter).
