Experience in Florence, Italy by Daniela
What is it like to live in Florence? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
I would recommend it. Living in Florence is living in the present, feeling the slow rhythm of life there, when you pick up on every detail looking at every passerby. Like spending the dusk on the Santa Trinitá bridge (I would recommend it there), and the city's history is etched into each of its buildings. Aside from feeling the history, Florence is a place where you feel the calmness of life and the beauty of its landscapes and of "the Old world". You can always feel the history.
What is the student lifestyle like in Florence?
I didn't get to explore the student lifestyle. But there are a lot of young people and university students at the Piazza Santo Spirito.
How much does it cost to live in Florence?
The city is expensive, but there are always ways to get by. Novoli or Campo de Marte on the outskirts of the city have some rooms that are more affordable for students. There are even some less expensive supermarkets there, such as Esselunga or Penny.
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Florence? Do you have any advice?
No. It was easy. I can recommend these two websites:
What is the food like there? What are some of your favourite dishes?
I don't have the words to describe Italian food. It is Completely delicious. I can recommend the Ostrería Santo Spirito to eat Bistecca Fiorentina (piazza Santo Spirito), the Antico Vinaio (on the piazza de la Signoria) to try the best Panini... And if you want to try a proper Italian lunch, I'd recommend Zio Gigi (on via Bufallini).
Top tip: go to the Mercado Central San Lorenzo. The upper part of it is all restaurants.
What places would you recommend visiting in Florence?
Piazza Michelangelo, Gelateria Carraia, Ponte Della Santa Trinitá, the David in the Galleria della Accademia, the Boboli garden and walk... walk around the city... it's more than worth seeing the city this way.
Where would you recommend for a night out in Florence?
I'd recommend Volume in the Piazza de Santo Spirito. I don't remembre the names of any other places.
Do you have any advice for students coming to Florence in the future?
Yes. Walk, walk around the city a lot. And don't forget to see the sunset from the Ponte Santa Trinitá.
