Experience in Firenze, Italy by Marco
What is it like to live in Firenze? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Firenze is a wonderful city, rich of art. Living there is a good experience. Of course, it can be a bit crowded from time to time, and it is also quite expensive (highly expensive near to the center), but if it's just for an Erasmus... you can make it.
What is the student lifestyle like in Firenze?
There is enough nightlife, transports are like the average in Italy, not very efficient. But still, you have to keep in mind that you're talking about an historical city (narrow streets, not many connections, etc. ).
How much does it cost to live in Firenze?
Quite expensive, you definitely have to share an apartment. People usually do not allow boys and girl living together. A shared apartment with single room for you may cost from 250 to 400€ per month, depending on the location.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Firenze? Is there any advice you can give?
I suggest you to book a cheap b&b and search for an accommodation in your first days. Many printed advertisement s are put in the universities.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Amazing food, that is sure.
What places would you recommend visiting in Firenze?
Too many to be listed here! Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, Ponte Vecchio, museo San Marco, Fiesole, piazzale Michelangelo... and many others.
Is it good to eat out in Firenze? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Good, but quite expensive.
Is the nightlife good in Firenze? Where is good to go?
The city center is extremely good to walk out and have something.
What advice would you give future students heading to Firenze?
Ask people, Italians may have many drawbacks but they like to help people. There is little less empathy towards French guys, nothing you can do about that...
