Arianna's experience in Ferrara, Italy
How do you like life in Ferrara? Would you recommend it? What's the city like?
Ferrara is a small city with a castle and medieval walls, and a beautiful historic center full of shops and restaurants. It's a peaceful city and comfortable to live in. Many people get around by bike.
What was the atmosphere at the university in Ferrara like
It's a bit stand-offish, it's actually hard to meet people from the city and easier to get to know those who come from outside.
What's the cost of living in Ferrara?
It's around €200 monthly for a shared room, like the rest of Italy.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Ferrara? Can you give any piece of advice?
Rooms in shared apartments are easy to find, and offers are best just before classes begin in September.
What's the food like there? What are your favourite dishes?
Obviously there's the classic Ferrarese pumpkin cappellacci and the chocolate Tenerina cake, but there's a vast array of restaurants that offer good food at reasonable prices.
In your opinion, what are the best places to visit in Ferrara?
The Castle, the walls, the Palazzo Schifanoia, the Jewish Quarter, the Cathedral and various churches - basically the whole city center.
And where's good to eat in Ferrara? What are your favourite restaurants?
Balebuste in the Jewish Quarter, Cusina e Butega and l'Osteria are my favourites.
What about the nightlife in Ferrara? Where do you recommend to go out?
The city center is full of bars where you can have a drink and listen to music.
Do you have any advice to give to future students in Ferrara?
Every day is good to visit the city except on Sundays, there are way too many people!
