What is it like to live in Fargo? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Fargo can be a place of extremes. For one example, the winter and summer weather are polar opposites. You can also find places of diverse culture and also stuff traditional Midwestern culture. It all depends upon where you are and who you are with. The suburbs are pretty quiet and safe. Downtown is lively an has a selection of different places to go. For just over 100,000 people living in it, the city feels big. Things are spread out and there is quite a bit of space. It's not cramped.

What is the student lifestyle like in Fargo?

At NDSU, there are a lot of clubs to join and events to go to and/or participate in. They have art exhibits at the university, musicians during lunch near the main eating areas sometimes, recent movies showing multiple times a week and a Friday night activity most weeks--all for free! There are house parties as well if you are into that scene. People who are of legal drinking age seem to bar-hopping on the weekends downtown, which isn't too far from the campus.

How much does it cost to live in Fargo?

Fargo is an average place to live. Not cheap, but not expensive either.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Fargo? Is there any advice you can give?

Accommodation is decently easy to find if you know where to look. There are many renting agencies. Many people do not like to rent with Goldmark because of their policies. There are places to look online too, like Craigslist.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Fargo isn't as Midwestern as one might think in terms of food. Norwegian and German influences are definitely represented in native home cooking, but there is a variety of cuisine in restaurants, including Asian, Indian, Traditional American, and Mexican. Natives make lots of hotdishes. Meat and starches are often served as main dishes. There are a few international food stores to find specialty ingredients if you want to make traditional dishes from other cultures.

What places would you recommend visiting in Fargo?

Visit the Theatre B or FMCT to see some theatre shows if you are interested in that. The Rocky Horror Picture Show showings at the Fargo Theatre are interesting if you want a bit of a wacky experience. There is a lot of college sports games to watch, like football in the fall and basketball in the winter. Island Park is a good place for a picnic or a stroll around.

Is it good to eat out in Fargo? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

As stated before, there is a wide variety of cuisines in the restaurants. For some Asian, go to Wasabi. There are also a some Chinese Buffets in town as well. Alcopolco is the place the serves the most traditional Mexican food in the area. I have heard from many that Aladdins is good too, but also a little spendy. Passage to India has been touted some of the best Indian food not made in India. The VIP room has a homey feel and pretty good food. For a quality, value and variety, visit Drunken Noodle. Don't be sucked into the chain restaurants because there is so much more.

Is the nightlife good in Fargo? Where is good to go?

Although I am not of legal age to go out to that bars, it seem to be popular and fun for most in Fargo. House parties are common too.

What advice would you give future students heading to Fargo?

Bring your warmest clothes!! It gets extremely cold in the winter--which lasts from November to March. Also, make sure to get involved. It's a great way to make friends at the university with similar interests. Organizations are really easy to join fall semester. Make use of the free entertainment available on campus--there is quite a bit!
