Experience in Estoril, Portugal by Jessica
What is it like to live in Estoril? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Perfect for those who love: the beach, the sun, go jogging and praticing outdoor and nautic sports.
Although the nighlife there isn't very alive, you're just 30 minutes away from Lisbon.
In Cascais, 5 min away only, there's always something happening. Almost everyweekend there's a market or small festival.
What is the student lifestyle like in Estoril?
In the summer we spend our time between the beach and your school. During breaks we head to the bars by the beach for a beer or an ice cream. We also meet up at the beach to play volleyball, we go for a bicycle ride (you can rent a bike for free in Cascais) or to jog by the beach).
In the winter we go to the cinema or to a cosy restaurant in Lisbon.
In Portugal when the weather is bad people do not go out so much.
How much does it cost to live in Estoril?
I would say around 250 - 300€ for a room (utilities included).
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Estoril? Is there any advice you can give?
Maybe it will be difficult to find a landlord that speaks english but besides that, the only problem you'll have is probably to find a good place, well located and for a nice price.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Some of the best beers in world. Fresh grilled fish. Homemade ice creams. Delicious pastries,...
What places would you recommend visiting in Estoril?
Casino
Praia do Tamariz
Is it good to eat out in Estoril? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Well, if you go to Lisbon, which is quite close, will find more variety and a better relation price-quality, But there are 2 restaurants that I may recommend: the one at Praia do Tamariz (which is called Restaurante Praia do Tamariz) and a very nice and cheap chinese in the same street as the fire station.
Is the nightlife good in Estoril? Where is good to go?
There's a bar near the casino gardens and the beach that is the meeting point in the area. It's called "Deck" but besides that only in Lisbon (30min away by train) or Cascais (5min away by train).
What advice would you give future students heading to Estoril?
Go there in the spring/ summer period and visit Lisbon, Sintra and Cascais.
