What is it like to live in Emmen? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Emmen itself is not a very awesome place. There are not a lot of things to do, but because of this reason the group of international students is awesome.

What is the student lifestyle like in Emmen?

The school offers a very cheap member ship with which you can go to the gym, the swimming pool and join various sportive activities for only €80 per YEAR! This is very awesome, For this reason a lot of students go to the gym. On evenings they chill together with friends, play games and get drunk. The fact that Emmen is a quiet city is for some student very helpful to motivate them to study.

How much does it cost to live in Emmen?

Emmen is not very expensive. You can find nice apartments for €300.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Emmen? Is there any advice you can give?

No, their is a Facebook group: student garage Emmen, and if you post a request on their page you will find an accommodation within days.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Pizza is of course real student food, you can buy a good pizza between 10/15 euro. But for the budget freaks, you can buy frozen pizza's in the supermarket for €2.

There are a few Italian, French, Dutch and Asian restaurants. Furthermore there are some nice Turkish kebap places and fastfood restaurants.

What places would you recommend visiting in Emmen?

Emmen has a very nice zoo, but this is the only thing what is very expensive in Emmen, you pay €30 entrance. Furthermore when in quit Emmen you should travel arround the Netherlands, it's a small country so within 2 hours you are in the capital, Amsterdam.

Is it good to eat out in Emmen? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

In the school you find a restaurant with typical dutch food. But most students like the all-you-can-eat restaurants which are also all you can drink (beer/wine).

Is the nightlife good in Emmen? Where is good to go?

The nightlife in Emmen itself is not nice. But the parties organized by the student fraternities and the close connections to your fellow students are making the parties nice! Houseparties in Emmen are definatly the best, for some clubbing you should go to Groningen which is one hour in the bus.

What advice would you give future students heading to Emmen?

If you want to have a dynamic and inspiring student type, Emmen is not the place for you. However if you values long term friendships, house parties (which are great) and a place where you are being motivated to study in a quiet city, this is the place to be.
