What is it like to live in Eindhoven? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Eindhoven is a very friendly city, especially to foreigners. The city is well connected from every place around. In fact, Eindhoven is one of the best places in The Netherlands, as it is the main connection to the Southern and the Northern part.

The city of Eindhoven offers you a great stay. That goes for quality of life, value for money, great leisure activities, international orientation, excellent public transport, and a dense city centre in which everything can be found.

You can basically get everywhere in Eindhoven within half an hour. Although public transport might be expensive, you will get anywhere comfortably and fast. Eindhoven has a huge network of local and regional busses which you can all use with just one card. That goes for all other public transport as well.

When it comes to leisure, the city offer you everything you need. From midgetgolf up to lasergaming and everything in between. You have great sportsparks as well as gyms, running courses and other facilities such as swimming pools, casino's, pubs, clubs. You think of it, you are going to find it over there.

For the ladies: Eindhoven had one of the biggest densities of shops in The Netherlands. You'll find shops from Primark to Hugo Boss. There is something for everyone.

You have to take into account that The Netherlands is quite an expensive country. In Amsterdam you'll easily pay €5, - for a beer. Eindhoven actually offers you better prices on prime locations.

Finally, there is one thing in Noord-Brabant (the province of Eindhoven) that you won't find anywhere else. It is calles "Brabantse gezelligheid" or certain Kind of hospitality not translatable in English.

What is the student lifestyle like in Eindhoven?

Students are all over the place. You'll find a huge University and other primary schools of higher education. Students go to "Stratum" where all the bars and clubs are. It is opened every night. You'll find R&B lounges to Hard Rock plaza's.

You should try them all, as every place has their own atmosphere. I can recommend Altstad for the Rockabilly's and Bermuda for the clubbers amongst us. Or if you into concerts, you'll find the huge poppodium "Effenaar" next to the central station. In here often concerts, parties and gettogethers are organized.

How much does it cost to live in Eindhoven?

As The Netherlands is quite an expensive country, and so is Eindhoven. If you want to take good care of yourself, you will have to take in mind that a regular self cooked meal will cost you around 5 to 6 euro. Of course, there are all kind of tips and tricks to keep it a little lower. Find discounters such as Lidl or Aldi for supermarkets. Others such as Albert Heijn or Plus are quite expensive.

Eindhoven offers you a good price for beers/wines in bars. Often around 2 to 2, 5 euro, which is quite regular in The Netherlands.

Going out for dinner might cost you a lot of money. So if you don't want to cook, prepare for a unhealthy meal such as fries or pizza.

If you are looking for a room, you will pay around 300 to 400 euros for a regular room. All costs included.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Eindhoven? Is there any advice you can give?

Yes, in Holland it is hard to find student homes. So make sure you go search early.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You have got every kind of food you can imagine in The Netherlands, especially in Eindhoven.

If you like buffets: go visit a wok or sushi restaurant. They're all over the city.

Like fastfood? Try one of the millions of snackbars on every streetcorner.

More classy? I can recommend Sopranos near the central station or Le Connaisseur (They have student discounts! )

Is the nightlife good in Eindhoven? Where is good to go?

Visit Cafe Thomas, which is always great. More smaller places are 't Lempke, Sgt. Peppers, Tipsy Duck.

Altstad and Bermuda are great places too!

What advice would you give future students heading to Eindhoven?

Make sure you'll come prepared. Buy a bicycle if you can as it will save you a lot of money. If not, make sure you'll bring a big wallet.

English is the best language to speak. German might work in some places too. Spanish, French or any other languages are hardly spoken.
