Why did you choose to go to Durham, United Kingdom?

I chose Durham because I was looking for a genuine british experience, so I wanted to avoid big cities. Furthermore it's one of the best universities in the world!

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

My scholarship was quite low, I stayed in Durham 9 months and I got 1600€ in total (so less then 200€/month)

What is the student lifestyle like in Durham?

Durham is one of a few collegiate universities in UK. The college system helps you to settle in, meet new people, participate at many cool events such as college days or college balls.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Durham to other students?

Definitely!

What is the food like?

British food is not bad, but being used to Italian food it was quite a traumatic experience. I don't recommend Italian restaurants, better cook at home! However, you definitely have to try Lebanese food in durham!

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Durham?

Not really, but some of my erasmus friends who stayed for one term only found it quite hard.

How much does it cost to live in Durham?

It really depends on what you do, but durham is one of the cheapest cities in the UK. I used to spend around 800€ a month (accommodation, food, trips, parties), and I was not saving my money! I think you could manage with 600€

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Durham?

Klute (awarded the worst club of Europe, but it is not that bad actually), BOAT PARTIES during the spring, Loft, and if you prefer bigger parties you can reach Newcastle in only 15 min by train!

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Durham?

Lebaneat, riverview cafe (very cosy), fat hippo (best burgers EVER)

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Durham cathedral and the castle. Durham has also a very strategic position in terms of travelling, you can reach York and Edinburgh in one hour by train!

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Durham in the future?

You will love durham! It's a student town, a lot of stuff to do in your spare time (sports societies, college bars, walks in the middle of the nature). Don't overthink it, just go!
