Hong Kong city as not any one I saw, conquare my heart
Hong Kong, Chinese city of course many years UK colony, smallest but riches, as behint its border were billion Chinese people and port with deepes draft in China able to dock biggest ships, it was even then Chinese and I read a book when although then was to be many years more colony of UK, chinese save city from bankrupcy by giving to Honk Kong million pounds then as it was matter of hours and plane from Uk can not so fast come from UK, and bring money although was underway.
But I was then kid but when was takeover day I happened then to be in Hong Kong with ship on which then I was senior merchant marine officer 2nd , in command next to Captain only. Before that 2 months or so happened we call Hong Kong, came from Suez Canaldirection west, stay 1 day with huge container ship, and agent told me as I saw schedule after you came back from many ports in Japan and Korea, will be ceremony of takeover and do not forget tell seaman who every day at ports on mast raise flag in honor of Country we happened to be, no to make mistake as I know even you as very young officer was 1st time in Honkong after that many , many times and always was raised Union Jack, British Flag, please make note now and when you come back it will ceremony day to not raise UK flag but Chinese. It was golden advice as I might forget and offeense great nation of China. And that day we really came back all seems as usual but was not, something like that one never forget, Of course I stick advice about flag on my apartment cabin mirror not to forget, as have many other jobs daily to solve. That great city is incredible wealthy from trade of course as all was going and coming from China huge country with more then billion people. I have one personal, I mean other ship i sailed, as younger officer, when Hong Kong and chain arround of hundred islands making protecting barrier as that city is on path if Typhoon and unfortunately Philipineas island with nice people and much of my crew on ships not only that one were from there during my sailing time. As its island and on path every year on many typhoons they hit Philipine made havoc for a while loose power when eye of storm pass over land as no sea no evaporation giving that beast energy but pass quickly power and in many cases head for Hong Kong. That particular episode of my life emotionaly bound me for that city as bound from South Korean port for Hong Kong we saw on weather warning and map , it will hit Hong Kong, it was very dangerous and hard decision my Captain made in all his sea career, decide to increase speed and force engine to maximum so that we enter Hong Kong before they closed port. When I say closed it means they no allow you any more to enter canal to city and sheltered anchorage inside as storm is so close that already wind increas and sea as well. We sail and pray that engine withstand and that we be allowed in last moment to enter Hong Kong and that happened, after short they close port no alowed any ship to enter canal to anchorage inside where is safe. It came on my mind poor those who stay outside what hell will have when typhoon hit and pas so close who no experienced it cannot imagine that what energy that beast accumulate more then all hydrogen boms man made. So pilot wait at usual place iside , as you pass that canal leading ship without him, then board and he know place where you can anchor and lead you there, so we anchor so close to other ships also sheltered that we were all packed so dangerously close to each other. Then storm after some time struck, luckily anchor hold as well as other vessels close and we all stay in same direction or will hit each othe if one turn opposite so close to other. That is amazing, vawes chan of Hong Kong islands protect those in but of course no wind and rain can, I say rain but its flood actualy coming from sky, first time I saw that rain fall horizontaly my god in all direction and wind so strong that could lift in air not man but loaded container ashore, and then I realized why they chained containerrs waiting to be transported , it was in case as was then as will 30 ton container fly and smash all in such wind in its path. Why I write this , it came on my mind, that young man should be brave but against elements we are all helpless, so on young we with our behaviour almost destroyed this beautiful planet, its not yet late but we all feel impact of ozone being destroyed winter in many parts warm, summer hot as were never in history, migrating people from Africa as immense heat destroyed even poor crop they had. No bound yourself for money rather be environtal conciousness, what still many people are not but young man who graduate and become holder of academic title means educated know well better then rest what might happen to us now and our kids in future, that was what I among other want say, and Hon kong that is city as not one in the world, many times I was joining ships there and after completing contract going home also from Hong Kong, but then airport was in the city , that is something to see when your jumbo land, my god, and when you going from Honkong, you sit on your place in plane and if is one close to window on side you no see runway but sea only out from plane,, and wonder my God will all lift up as space was so little that all was used what they have, and even then was one of busiest airport in the world, plane landing and taking off from all world one after another. I am forever grateful that great city was part of my life and is deep in my heart and young people can learn also a lot that peace is priceless as next Taiwan will also be returned to motherland we must do all unfluential pepple now stuy mmany on Erasmus in future will maybe be part of peacefull aliansa.
I am sure they will reunute as its same people we know from history how come, Taiwan separated from China.
When was on one ship, charter by Taiwanese, I did spent 6 months sailing only from Honkon to Taiwanese on North port of Keelung and they are suppsed to be not so friendly but trade was going at such scale that I was stunned, and of course from Keelung port in Taiwan to Hong Kong still then UK colony without any problem,I was then as young thinking but yes they are same nation, and what goes to Honkong in few hours is in China mainland so funny thing is that before they cannot buy certain electronic lets say but Hong Kong sure can, and where it go to China of course.
Even after China takeover Hong Kong all we know system and curency 50 years remain as it was, I was after that coming many times more and on one island new airport still was not finished and British started but when was completed you really have something to see my god I know that close to port inside chain protecting from weather city when was almost bare land and what after became one of tehology miracle , that wires suporting Bridge thick as my leg on that height were working people I forgot cannot now how they are named only know are from Tibet, and they no afraid from such height to work on those wire what normal man hair rise up when saw them no afraid and hanging there and working.
Funny is that they are no people to play with, still now and the some people from China managed to enter Hong Kong through border, and once Cineses president told Hong kong authorities what made me laugh as is so true, you cannot guard that biorder or we need guns to retake it simply will send few milion our people and you will collapse simply by feeding them, sure if China want can take it in will do in one minute.
I hear still mainland chinese are not allowed to setlte in Hong kong as if do so all land what is still exist, will be ocupied with people and it will be end of profitable and useful thing for China itself.
Amazing and interesting is to see are junkas , as its as whole city,of junkas in one part, of dock, people are born live trade died there, and often if we are on anchor loading they came to sell good stuff clothing ect, and you can see grandmothers how skilfully sailed junka,, if we anchored as port is not so big but they have many floating cranes and load containers and do it so fast i was waching man on crane controls no any shelter ot cabin, wires passing as he moved crane by himself, berth on ship as loading just pulling that floating barge crane fast by wires on ship, looking more as barge few feet from him and he is no afraid and curent is so strong, exactly close to bridge new one of airport that I was scared even watch it as when it break it goes as whiip can kill you but he just laugh my God, and what skill they have,
When became senior officer and loaded on anchor from that floating barges crane, when stevedors came always main one brought me fresh newspaper as i was in charge for loading and box with delicious food they eat.And main one who with me checking made container plan , so skilfuly that i told mhim i can learn lot from your skill, just slow down a bit they have to discharge some caargo i no doubt we be sailing in time and when i check on computer stability accordin plan we, actualy you made as we knew each other years, he laugh sayy no wory, you know me, i know you.
Once when join ship in Honk Kong agent of course , I mean ship agent wait me on airport drive to port and ship, and once was arround noon he said , why we shall no eat something in port dockers cantina as also I want to show what you never seen, he want ti show me what dockers eat , in port restaurant cantina, and when i saw it, it was as Swedish table with so much vegetables made on many way delicius, fish , meat, anything you can find in good restaurant even more tasty no know what will try to eat as all was so good , he laugh, so thats that city my favorite was and remain,
Thats from Niksa, thank you maybe someone read this and visit that amazing city and will never forget it especially when was that old airport landing tere and takoff that is something
