Experience in Doha, Qatar by Rimsha
What is it like to live in Doha? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Qatar is a very cultural and islamic place. I would recommend Qatar for a visit only. The city life is always busy. It’s fun to be here but since it’s a small country, you’re going to get bored after a certain time.
What is the student lifestyle like in Doha?
Student life in Qatar is completely different from other countries. Most students live in Qatar itself so the entire “dorm culture” doesn’t exist. If you’re a student seeking dorm experience, you’re going to get disappointed. Qatar is one of the safest countries for students and most importantly women.
How much does it cost to live in Doha?
I would say Qatar is quite expensive for a student.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Doha? Is there any advice you can give?
Finding accommodation is pretty easy in Qatar. I’d recommend finding it from Facebook groups which are made for people looking for accommodation.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food here is pretty good. You can find many types of cuisines. If you want to try Qatari or Arabic food, Harees, Lahm Mandi, Bukhari rice, Majboos, Madrouba, Thareed are amazing.
What places would you recommend visiting in Doha?
All the malls worth visiting at least once. They won’t disappoint you. Other than that, The Qatar National Museum is a must.
Qatar national library
Msheireib downtown
Pearl qatar
Villagio Mall
Souq waqf
Corniche
The beaches here are pretty good too.
Is it good to eat out in Doha? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Yes, it’s amazing! Afghan brothers, 4 seasons, Marriott hotel, St. Regis, The Torch hotel, Roti and boti, Multiple restaurants in Pearl Qatar and Souq waqf, Salt and pepper restaurant.
Is the nightlife good in Doha? Where is good to go?
The nightlife is amazing.
We have a Night market, where you can get amazing street food like multiple types of french fries, ice creams, coffees and burgers. You can find pretty much everything open at night too.
What advice would you give future students heading to Doha?
Be respectful towards the culture. Go out and have fun. Pack up a lot of good summer clothes as Qatar is usually very hot and cold only from December to March.
It’s a not a very modern country so students might find it a little difficult to adjust here.
