What is it like to live in Dehra Dun? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Dehradun is a valley surrounded by the lower Himalayan ranges. If you are nature loving person you will love it. The weather is beautiful. In summers, it gets hot but there are rains at regular intervals which is a relief. The winters are cold but always sunny. It is a good place to spend time with nature.

What is the student lifestyle like in Dehra Dun?

Dehradun is famous for its schooling. It has some of the top high schools in India. As for the university level education, its is still struggling to have some good universities and colleges. Desite this, a number of students come to Dehadun for higher education as it is the capital city of the state of Uttarakhand.

How much does it cost to live in Dehra Dun?

Dehradun is not an expensive city compared to the big cities and metropolitan cities in India. INR 10,000 should be a good amount for a month's expenses.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Dehra Dun? Is there any advice you can give?

FInding accommodation should not be very difficult. You can take help of some real estate agencies to make it easier and more reliable.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

You can mainly find Indian food but there are many eating joins and restaurants which serve Chinese and Tibetan food as well.

What places would you recommend visiting in Dehra Dun?

1. Mussoorie hill station, 45 min drive from Dehradun.
2. Rishikesh, 1 hour from Dehradun, Good for water sports and yoga.
3. A number of trekking if you are interested, for eg., Nagg Tibba (10,000 ft)
4. Beautiful Buddhist Monastery at Rajpur road.
5. Forest Research Institute (FRI), Near Vasant Vihar
6. The main market at clock tower, if you want to get a feel of the Indian market place.

Is it good to eat out in Dehra Dun? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There are a number of good restaurants depending on the kind of food you want to eat:
1. Presidents Hotel Restaurant at Ashley hall
2. My wife's Place, Rajpur Road ( good Indian food )
3. Town Table, Rajpur Road
4. Orchids, Rajpur (Chinese/Tibetan)

Is the nightlife good in Dehra Dun? Where is good to go?

There aren't good night clubs in Dehradun.

What advice would you give future students heading to Dehra Dun?

Enjoy the natural beauty of the place as much as u can and try to blend in.
