Erasmus in Debrecen from the view of a loveable Polish girl
//It’s really hard to describe the best//
//time you’ve ever had in your life…//
Some of my friends were surprised that I choose Hungary for my Erasmus adventure. Why did I do this? I don’t really know…Maybe just to “travel the World and seven seas…” ups! lakes. I decided not to run away from Europe and see how my barátok’s life looks. And that was the best idea!
The shortest way between Debrecen and Bydgoszcz is 920 km long! To get to Debrecen I needed to take 3 trains… and this took me 28 hours.
Everybody, who travells, knows how it looks like when you’re trying to buy a ticket in a foreign country and lady doesn’t speak English…In Budapest I’ve had the hardest talk in my life …that’s why I bought ticket from Budapest to Debrecen through Tokaj… (For those who don’t know – the longest way from Budapest to Debrecen around entire northern Hungary…) And that was God’s finger… It was love at first sight… The fields full of sunflowers. Waving vineyards. I couldn’t take my eyes off them.
Is it possible to find soulmate, brothers and sisters so far from home? From the begining my friend and I could count on other students and teachers of Debreceni Egyetem. All the people I met there were very nice and polite with us.
If somebody tell you: “Hey, man! Where are the best parties in the World? ” I’m giving you a permission to say “Debrecenben! ” Because I found the best group of party people there! The clubs were full of international students and Polish saying “Upić się warto! ” (“It’s good to get drunk! ”) Got a new meaning for me when I was having fun with my new bestfriends. If there is anybody who thinks that the hardest thing ever is to go to another country, where they speak a language what you don’t know, far far away from the place where you were born… just with your best friend (second girl and 2x60kg baggage)…if you think so, you’re wrong.
If you think that going to Tokaj for 3 days and being the only foreigner in the group of 100 Hungarians is kind of hardcore. You’re right…It was hardcore! Thanks for everybody, who was trying to teach me Hungarian (especially for Gábor): „Lengyel, magyar – két jó barát, együtt harcol, s issza borát. ”* – try to do this after some glasses of wine and (even more) shots of Pálinka!
But still, the hardest thing I’ve ever do was trying to study for Differenciálegyenletek from Hungarian notes… (thank you Éva! )
I wrote something about soulmate. I needed to go to other country to find him, other Polish student on Erasmus exchange. It would be worth going to Hungary just to meet him (there was more possitives than this of course! but still that was the best). I need to add that the most handsome guys I have ever seen live in Hungary! And they dance and play basketball perfectly! BOYS, I LOVE YOU! The best 5 months of my life are over but I have a lot of new friends, not just Hungarian, but Czech, Italian, Turkish, Romanian, Spanish, from Iran, Namibia, South Korea and more.
If you think about going to Debrecen and you’re not sure…
Don’t hesitate!
It’s beautiful place with the best people in the World!
(you can believe me, because I saw a pretty big peace of it)
Viszlát Debrecenben!
