Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Darmstadt?

I found my accommodation online, for free. There are many websites (such as wg-gesucht.de) which offer advertisement for rooms as well as there are a lot of groups and pages on facebook where the owners put up there advertisements.

How much does it cost to live in Darmstadt?

The cost of living in Darmstadt is fairly high, it is one of the most expensive cities where to live because of the many universities in the city. The rent is on the higher side starting from 350€ in the center. Although, cheaper and affordable hostels are available in the suburbs of the city (rent starting from 245€). The other costs are similar to any other city in Germany, the commuting can cost you a good sum if you're living in these above mentioned suburbs but that is normally taken care of by the university as they provide you with a semester ticket which allows you to travel in this region for the term of your semester.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

It is always better to know at least basic conversational German before coming here. Due to the location of 2 major universities here, there are a lot of international students here, and the most of the locals can speak very well in English.

German courses are offered by the universities and are most of the times included in your course structures.

I would personally suggest to learn German asap, as it helps you converse better and get to know the people better.
