What is it like to live in Corfu? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I love living in Corfu! I have been living here for more than 3 years, I am a student at Ionian University and I really like the city and island!

What is the student lifestyle like in Corfu?

It is a bit quiet, but not too much. there are places where students meet. an example is Lunatico, the coffee place next to one of the university buildings. There are alot of coffee places, bars, clubs, fast food places etc.

How much does it cost to live in Corfu?

It is a bit expensive, but not too much. Me and my roomate live in a 2 bedroom apartment, with a big kitchen and big livingroom and pay around 180 euros a month each (including all bills). The supermarkets can be a bit expensive.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Corfu? Is there any advice you can give?

It is not very difficult, there are apartments for rent, suitable for students, there are bosrds on the university building with adds for appertments to rent, as well as adds on the streets.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

It is nice, there are a few good places to eat, restaurants are usualy
quite expensive though. Most students eat pita, souvlaki, pizza, pastries etc. Some places have a 15-20% discount for students.

What places would you recommend visiting in Corfu?

The old fortress, but you can't really miss it, it is very close to the city center. Also Mon Repos, it has a beautiful forest/garden. Honestly, the whole city is really beautiful, wherever you go, the architecture, the sea ...

Is it good to eat out in Corfu? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Cassa del Souvlaki, Big Apple (both have 20% student discount), Stazei meli for loukoumades (sweet stuff!), Vinulio is great for sandwiches and has great great food to grab on the go and Pasta Bella for pizza. For a more expensive kind of restaurant I would say La Famiglia (italian).

Is the nightlife good in Corfu? Where is good to go?

It is, mostly in the summer. In the city, there is a club/bar at the top of new fortress that many students go after 1-2 a.m., there are a few wine and tsipouro taverns that are really popular with students, some seaside bars and clubs. Also, about a 40 minutes walk outside of toun there is an area calls Emporiko, with many clubs, bars and restaurants.

What advice would you give future students heading to Corfu?

Be prepared for quite a few rainy days in the winter and high humidity, but is doesn't get too cold. It might be a bit expensive, until you find cheaper places, but not too much. Some people find the city a bit quiet, but I wouldn't realy agree, I love it! and it is a really safe city. One of my favorite things is going running at night by the sea, to the town's windmill, it is perfect!
