What is it like to live in Corfu? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Corfu is a very beautiful island. The aesthetics of it all is wonderful. It has a warm atmospeare.The center of the town is really old and anyone interested in its history would find many things. Going to the baker in the morning the grocery store gives you the sensation that you live in a village cause everything is close right there in front of you. People are easy to talk to and kind! It has many things to offer, I ve been living here as a student for 5 years and i ve loved it.

What is the student lifestyle like in Corfu?

The univeristy has 6 departments and therefore a good amount of students. The island is small so it is most likely that everyone will meet eventually and maybe sit in the same table. In the summer everyone sits out in spianada square until the morning drinking talking having fun giving the opportunity to everyone to meet new people.

How much does it cost to live in Corfu?

Concerning the fact that it is a very popular island prices are a bit high for students but there are places one can go and find cheaper things.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Corfu? Is there any advice you can give?

Prices in houses have dropped but still it is a bit expensive considering what they offer. Always chech the house/accomodation carefully ask about expenses, internet, heating and water!! Beacuse of the humidity in Corfu there is a problem with houses keeping warm in the winter!!

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Corfu being an island has all the mediterrenean dishes one can expect. Their traditionan ones are sofrito and pastichada both meat based with different sauces and rice or potetoes aside.

What places would you recommend visiting in Corfu?

Well if one comes in the summer definitly hire a car and visit the beaches that are wonderful( palaiocastritsa, issos, halikoyna, gialiskari) and eat in tavernas like alonaki which is next to halikoyna. Then is the palace of princess sissy, the gardens of mon repo, the asian art museum and ofcours walk around the old center.

Is it good to eat out in Corfu? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

For students it might be a bit expensive to eat out. There are always ofcourse tsipoyradika where you can go out at night and drink and eat. On the other hand there is also the university dinner which is 2 euros per dish.

Is the nightlife good in Corfu? Where is good to go?

There are many places one can go at night to drink tsipouro and ouzo the greek traditional drinks. These places are always packed with people with a nice warm atmospheare. And for something more sophisticatd there is always Polytehno playing really nice music ,having great aesthetics and with a seperate space next to eat hosting live performances from jazz to stand up comedie , movies, and much more.

What advice would you give future students heading to Corfu?

Find a nice house in the center, be close to the school, go out as much as possible and meet people,make friends and explore the island as it has so much to offer.
