The well renown CoffeeCollective
Established establishment
If you ask a random Dane about the best known coffeehouse he will probably shout in sheer enjoyment "Coffee Collective!". Why is that? Simple, they have been excelling at every point imaginable ever since their start-up in 2007. Super trendy interiour, own micro-roastery, highly skilled baristas, direct-trade with the farmers and a knack for bussiness.
Super trendy interiour
A finely tuned interiour starts with refined exterieur and one glance at the facade takes away all doubt that this place is one to stay.
Danish design makes you wonder why people would want it any other way. Simplicity, elegance, modern shapes with old-school flavours, the danes know what they are doing. Wood meets metal in an urban artistry, you come in and feel at home. In fact, I surely wouldn't mind having a bed installed somewhere behind the counter to make this place a permanent nest.
Own Micro-roastery
Interiour isn't the only thing they do well. To make sure their coffee tastes exactly the way they like it the team behind this collective decided to install their own roastery. Behind a glass wall on the inside anyone who walks in can immediately come to admire their amazing machine. If you want to get to know you can even sign up for a monthly guided tour!
The coffee is packed and sold in beautiful re-sealable packages for you to enjoy at home aswell! Let me tell you, they all taste exquisite. Forget your standard supermarket coffee, this stuff is the real deal. Notes from nuts, fruits and flowers, creamy, acidic, you will find anything you want in these shelves. Don't have the nose yet? Simply ask the baristas to help you out. With an inexpensive Aeropress you can start brewing at home real easy!
Highly skilled baristas
Can't make good coffee without a proper barista! To know the amount of coffee to grind, the pouring method, the water temperature etc. is an art unto itself. But do not worry, the baristas at the Coffee Collective have honed their skills for years! Each and every coffee they served me tasted delicious. Whether it was an espresso, a cappucino or a filter coffee, those guys know their chops.
Annual coffee contest
To make sure the baristas around town stay on par with each other the Coffee Collective hosts an annual coffee-brewing contest. When I was there the aeropress championship was being quietly fought out. No big banners here but a crowd nontheless and a careful patience to makes things perfect.
Direct trade
The story doesn't end with good coffee. Danish wellfare state is huge and this is sensed in it's culture too. Especially in Copenhagen the demand for quality versus quantity is actively felt and endorsed by many bussinesses.
To make sure their coffee is grown in a sustainable way Coffee Collective visits the farmers personally and establishes a direct trade making sure the farms earn at least 25% more than the fairtrade price. Way to go Coffee Collective!!
