Pre Party? What--pre party?
I should be used to the fact that, there is always going to be a culture crash no matter where you go, it's really just up to how you cope with it. Well, here's a little bit about Danish Drinking Culture from the perspective of a little Thai girl.
I moved to Denmark by myself, on the 18th of August. Really, just to be ready for the University's intro week. I heard it'd be constantly drinking and partying because of the tradition (since the legal drinking age is 16). I can do that, no problem. Rather excited actually.
After that week, there is one thing I learnt that would probably be very useful for me as well as for other people: the Danes inhale alcohol beverages. No, they don't just simply drink, that would be too easy. They, let me emphasize, consume large quantities of alcohol over whatever period of time it's available.
They also have a 'pre party' that comes before you go to another 'pre party' before you can even go to 'the actual party'. So, it is very normal for a group of Danish to say, "hey, let's go to the pre-party, before we head to Anders' house (aka pre-party), then we'll head to the central (centrum) for the bar. "
The worst part of that? Cycling home. Yes! Danish cycle their way home after a long night of alcohol comsumption. Imagine that! It's the most economical way to travel, good excercise, doesn't pollute and fun as well.
