Nyhavn
I’m sure, that you have all seen those pictures of Denmark, where the landscape is full of colourful houses alongside the canal. It’s like a symbol of Copenhagen and when you are in Copenhagen, you must take a picture in that place. That place is called Nyhavn, which means New Harbour in English and is full of 17-th and 18-th centuries’ houses.
Well, the Nyhavn is a very popular tourist attractionin Copenhagen and every tourist, who visits Copenhagen goes there to see the Nyhavn and take a picture there, because when you have a picture in Nyhavn, people surely know, that you have been to Copenhagen.
I had seen Nyhavn pictures on the internet or something like that and I knew, that it was one of the very major places, that I should have seen while visiting Copenhagen, so that it was the third day of my being in Copenhagen when I went to see this Nyhavn. I went there after the lectures and since it was after 4 p. m. it was not late or something to walk somewhere into the city.
To be honest, I didn’t think, that I would need much time to walk from the university building to Nyhavn, however, it seemed like I had walked quite a long wayuntil I got there and, hence, it needed some time to get there in Nyhavn.
Well, there were many people walking around nearby Nyhavn and there were many bikes parked alongside the canal and there were all those souvenirs and cafes and restaurants, which you could visit and many tourists were just sitting there sipping wine or beer and enjoying the view. However, I must tell you, that it is quite expensive if you sit there in a café on Nyhavnand order something, because, first of all, every tourist place tries to get much money from tourists and, secondly, it’s a pretty popular place and the prices are more expensive, than in other places, of course. And I don’t’ think, that there are things any better than in other places there.
So, I followed the canal on its left side, where all those colourful buildings and cafes are located and there were many people walking there like me, I must say. There were many boats in the canal and there were some of them offering people boat trips through canals in Copenhagen and there were even some brochures about the boat trips and stuff like that in some glass boxes in front of those boats.
Then, there was this bridge for people and bikes, approximately in the middle of the canal and I walked on there, because I thought, that the best view of Nyhavn would be from there, and, I think, that I was right because the view from there was just great and you could see all those colourful buildings from there and many photos of Nyhavn are taken from that bridge, I guess. many people took pictures there and I wanted a picture there, too, however, I didn’t have my selfie stick there with me, so I just took some pictures of those buildings and stuff. Then one man noticed me taking those pictures and suggested taking a picture of me on that view, however, I didn’t want to bother him, so that I told him, that I didn’t want a picture with a nice smile.
It was already getting late, I mean, it was a late afternoon when I got there and after all those looking around and sightseeing, the evening came and the sun was getting down and down and when you looked at the end of the canal, you could see the sun reflected on the water and this was a wonderful scenery there.
