Next Task? Cycle My Butt Off to Get to School on Time

When I told my friends that I got a flu from biking in the rain from school. Their reaction? Bursted out laughing with a couple of questions with occasional swearing words like "HAHAHA, What the fuck? Seriously?".

I totoally understood why they were reacting that way. Most of the world's population don't rely on bicycle as a daily transportation. I also came from societies that promotes the use of this mechanical object or what some people call it 'Cars', yes we pollute, but we do get around without having to put much effort or sweat a bit.

Let me tell you something about Denmark and bicycles, they are like, peanut butter and jelly. [It does sound gross if you're not American enough, but you get my point] Everybody has a bicycle (s). Some are red, rusted, rotted, brandnamed, girlie, fixie, speedy, you name it. Bicylers come in all ages, ethnics, and social ranking as well. [I had to mention this since I freaked out when I saw a (fashionable) business woman with two kids in the extended cart, speed cycling to work. It's hilarious.]

The Danish authroity really promotes the use of bicycle, it's fast --er than walking, don't pollute, excercise, and cost you less in the long run, win win!

There are rules as well, rules that you want to follow or else they will fine you and you will feel really shit for the rest of your day. Each fine is 750DKK, that's 100 Euros. Yey.

  • You got to have white and red lights on when it's dark (the street lights will indicate the timing for that)
  • You gotta cycle of the right (I had such a hard time sticking with that because in Asia, we drive on the left)
  • You can't cycle on the walking path, you can't have a second dude taking a ride with you
  • You can't be drunk while cycling (obviously that rule is not well taken care since drunk youth just crashes everywhere after midnight on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday)
  • You must show some kind of hand sign if you want to stop or turn and some other rules that I don't actually know. (Yes yes, stupid foreigner haha)

But, obviously not everybody choose to do it. Why? Oh! Can you imagine me cycling in the snow during Christmas to get to school which is half an hour away? Yeah, that'd be so fun.
