Housing Foundation Copenhagen _ the procedures of getting a room

The procedures of getting a room via Housing Foundation

So, as I’ve told you, you had to send an application to the Housing Foundation during the period, when they had the application fillings announced,  and then they would send web page links to the chosen candidates and then the candidates would go to the links and register and then they would search for some vacant rooms in different buildings, that the Housing Foundation offered them. These things were free of charge to do, however, then, when you had chosen your desired room they would send you a contract, where there was written about the amount of money, that you had to pay due date and then you had to pay that money after you had signed and uploaded your contract on the portal. And, to be honest, this payment thing was kind of scaring me, though as it was not some small company or something like that,  I thought, that there wouldn’t be any problem about the money transfers there.

The other thing to think of while choosing a vacant room was to decide, which dates was suitable for you. I mean, you could either choose a room, which was vacant from the beginning of the month or from the 15-th number of the month and they had those two weeks’ vacant rooms, I can say. So that, if you needed a room from June 10-th till july 11-th, then you should have taken a room from the 1-st of June to the 15-th of July, because the periods were either from the 1-st to the 14-th or from the 15-th to the 30-th or 31-st of that month. It was not a very good deal for me, however, the prices of some rooms were okayand I preferred having their rooms taken for that period of my being there in Denmark, than to be in a hotel and pay too much in their rooms.

Well, my course in internal medicine was starting on the 23-rd of June and it was going to last until the 4-th of July, so that as you understand, I didn’t really have a good choice of the periods and I had to choose two periods, and by that, I mean, that I should have taken the whole month rent of a room that I would choose, and I would pay the month fee for that room. However, I didn’t really have a choice, and, besides, I would probably stay there in Copenhagen for a couple of days after the course finished, so that, I would have some time to sightsee the city and its surroundings.

Somewhere about the beginning of May I got this email from the Housing Foundation, telling me, that I had that chance to get a link to their web page and register with the tenant number, that I had been given and that I could then search for available rooms for myself. There were these vacant rooms, which were really cheap, however, then I realized, that they were vacant in august, so that, they didn’t suit me. I needed rooms in june and july and it was not that far away and, maybe, that’s why many of them were not so cheap. And, besides, I needed to choose my room quickly, because there were many other people looking for accommodation and choosing the rooms, that they found suitable for themselves and soon I would be left with expensive rooms only.

To be honest, it took me some time to search all those rooms and read the descriptions and choose some of them as choices and then again read the descriptions and decide, which one was better. It was a pretty long and time-consuming process and it was like my brain couldn’t really function at all after that. Well, the priority for me was the price and the location, mostly. So that I chose a cheaper room somewhere nearby the university building, so that I could walk to the lectures and not take any bus or whatever public transport there may have been. And when I looked at the photos uploaded by the building staff, that place looked pretty beautiful and there were flowers in front of the building like a garden and, well, I hoped, that everything would be just fine inside.

So, when I chose the room, I had to click on it and then it would be in my profile, but it was like there was some kind of a problem and it didn’t seem to be in my profile and I was worried, that I wouldn’t be able to reserve that room. I tried that several times, however, it still didn’t seem to work. Then, when it was Monday, it seemed like they had solved the problem and then when I chose that room, it was added to my list and then I could have my contract sent to me.

There’s this rule, that when the contract is sent to you, you have 3 days to read it and fill it and sign and scan every page and upload it on the portal. If you don’t fill it properly or if it lacks some pages or something like that, then the contract will be denied and the room will be in vacant rooms’ list again.

So, I downloaded the contract and it was in Danish, however, it had its English translation with it, too. So that , it was not a big deal to have it filled in Danish language.

Well, I had to pay for one month rent and some other fees, like cleaning and some stuff, and it was pretty expensive, still. It was due 3-rd of July, as I remember, that I had to pay for those things.

There was another thing _  there was a deposit to be paid. And the deposit this year had been doubled, and it had become 8000 DKK now. And it was 4000 DKK until this year. So, I think, you will agree with me, that this amount of money is not something, that people wish to pay without knowing, that it will be returned.  Well, as they said, the deposit would be returned fully or some parts of it after finishing the tenancy in about 8 weeks. And it was a long period of time, of course, and, besides, I didn’t know, whether they would return it fully or not. Well, they would return  the money if there was not any damage or something like that to the accommodation, and I hoped, that there wouldn’t be anything like that by me, because I was not going to break anything in that room or somewhere else.

Anyways, it was somewhere about 12000 DKK to be paid in all and it included the one month rent of the room and some cleaning and booking stuff and the deposit. And you could pay the deposit until 14 days of the starting of the tenancy, so that you could first pay the rent and stuff and then the deposit, if you were short on money or something like that. And the credit card that you were paying with was supposed to be valid until October or later, because it needed to be valid 8 weeks after the finishing of the tenancy, so that they would return the money on that credit card, otherwise , you had to tell them your bank account number or something else, where they would return the money , but that would cost you some money, of course, because of the transfer and things like that.

So, when doing the payment, I just filled the things about my card and that was it. Soon I had this text message, telling me that I had paid that amount of money and soon it was on the portal, too

Oh, and there was this other thing, too, _ I didn’t make any payments until I had a confirmation of my contract, that I had successfully reserved a room from the Housing Foundation! That was when I made the payment.
