Eating & drinking in Christiania

Anyways, we walked all the way through those tourist attraction things and then there were these cafes, where you could just order some things and eat or drink and chill out. And there was this large place, where people were having lunch and drinking beer. I noticed, that there was this strange thing about the glasses, I mean, there were these different glasses for beer, that they all had there and they were drinking beer with those plastic glasses, which had this strange handle and there was a weed leaf on it with red thing on them. I guess, it was something, that represented Christiania and when looking at glasses like this, you would understand, that it was from Christiania. I actually was lucky to have one of those and I brought that home more like a souvenir. However, I haven’t drunk any beer with it since I came back home and now that I remember it, I should definitely drink some beer with that thing and see, if anything’s different with it. You know, usually we have those heavy glasses for beer, which they put into the freezer for a couple of minutes, so that when they pour some beer into them, the beer doesn’t get warm very quickly. And that’s why most people like glass things for drinking cold beer.

So, there were some long tables with long chairs around them and you could sit there and have your meal there or just drink beer with your friends. There was this one café. It was all red and it was a pretty nice looking café and we entered there, because many of us wanted to have a lunch. It had been some hours, since we gathered in the city center and went to boat trip, so that we hadn’t had anything for lunch and we were kind of hungry and we decided to have something there in Christiania. Most of us took some beer, and there was this beer called Christiania and, well, I guess, these people have their own beer there. It was a pretty good one, I must say, and you can buy it if you happen to be in Christiania. And the bottle is really lovely, too, if you ask me. It has a red color and there are those three yellow dots on it and that’s the flag of Christiania, so that their beer has their flag on the bottles.

Well, there was this thing nearby and they were selling something like shawarmas and sandwiches and people bought them there and it was not very expensive, though it was not cheap, either. I think, it was something like 15 DKK if you ordered a small one. However, people liked it and though I haven’t eaten them, others said, that it tasted pretty delicious. I had my own sandwich prepared beforehand at home and I had it with my backpack, so that I took it and had it as a lunch. There were some others, who had brought lunch with themselves just like I did, so that we didn’t need to buy anything there. And when everyone had finished their lunch or drinking beer, we decided to continue our tour in Christiania and got up and followed Kathrine again.

After some time, those buildings full of tourists began to fade away and then there were those casual houses with some things in the yards, such as, balls and children toys and tables and chairs and flowers and things like that. There were not streets, but pathways and there were some kind of cottages along the pathways. And there were some large houses, too, of course. There was this house or building, which had a sign on it saying 1894 and I don’t know, whether it was built in that year or not, but it was a pretty old building, I guess. Maybe it was from that era, when there were military barracks in that part of Christiania, because the building kind of resembled a military building.
