The introduction

So, Kathrine had planned us a dinner at Paludan café, which was a great place for just hanging out or even reading some books, because it was a place, where there were plenty of books on the shelves as well as some great painting on the walls. The place was pretty cozy and it was in the city center, so that you could easily find it and it was a really beautiful place, I must say.

Well, on the second day or so, Kathrine had a poster stuck on the wall in our lectures’ place, where it was said, that we should choose which dish we wanted to have at Paludan café and there were some choices there from which we could choose one of them. There were the names of the dishes and there were the ingredients and stuff like that written just beside the dish names, so that if anyone of us didn’t know what was the dish about, we would understand by their ingredients and we would decide, whether we wanted to have that dish or not.

The choice of the dishes

The choices were plenty and I had a pretty hard time deciding which dish I would take. Of course, there were some of the dishes, which I had already tasted, such as lasagna, which I love, by the way, and at first, I thought, that I would have it at Paludan café , too, however, then  I decided to have something, that I hadn’t had tasted before.

So, I could have a Paludan Burger, which was served with cheddar cheese, bacon, oven baked potatoes and chili mayo, and it seemed pretty delicious, and it was a very large portion, I must say, but I didn’t really want to eat burger, and, besides, I’m not a great burger eater, because I can not really get a bite, especially if the burger is pretty large, so that the paludan Burger was out of the choice.

Next, I could have the Caesar salad with chicken, parmesan cheese, croutons , romaine lettuce and pine nuts, however, I have had Caesar salad many times in many places and I didn’t want it to be my choice then, either.

Then there were ginger/chili prawns. I didn’t know what they were, so that I looked and it said, that they were served with lettuce salad, balsamico and bread and it didn’t seem very interesting, so that we moved to the next choice.

The next one was lasagna Bolognese with bread and lettuce and I really wanted to have it, however, as I have already mentioned, I decided to try something new.

The next choice was a vegetarian lasagna, but I’m not a vegetarian and I didn’t want lasagna then, so that it was out of the choice, of course.

Then there was this Parisian hamburger (traditional Danish pariserbof), with pickles and beetroots and capers and horse radish and red onions and egg yolk. Well, sounded like a fancy dish, however, when I looked it up in the internet, it didn’t seem so fancy, so that I didn’t choose it either.

The next dish was Chili con carne with rice, sour cream, bread , butter and lettuce salad, which was a pretty good choice and I had it on my mind while deciding, but then I decided not to take it either.

There was this Wok, too, with vegetables, teriyaki sauce, beef/chicken and noodles/rice, and it was a pretty good dish, too, however then I chose this Tagliatelle, the Italian dish.

Tagliatelle was with chicken and vegetables,semi-dried tomatoes, parmesan cheese in a creamy white wine and pesto sauce and it was just a great dish to my mind, so that after quite some time of thinking, I chose that one and I was pretty much looking forward to tasting it.

Getting to Paludan café

It was said, that we would meet at 18:30 at Norreport, which is kind of a center of the city. There’s a metro station and the railway station, too, so that it’s a pretty busy place, if you want to know the truth. The Paludan café was not very near to the Norreport station, so that I decided, that rather than meeting other students at the Norreport, I would just go straight to the Paludan café and meet them there, and, besides, I would sightsee some things until that. Well, I still had my google maps on and had everything planned on how I would get to the Paludan café. It’s nearby the Round Tower, which, I’m sure, that many people know, and it’s not very difficult to find this café there. But I was kind of going through this new road, ,which I hadn’t been yet, so that I pretty much needed my google maps, and it was great, that my gps worked very well and I could see where exactly I was and where to go next.

It was like I needed about half an hour or a slightly more time to get to the Paludan café, so that I walked pretty fast, because I didn’t want to be late or something. Meanwhile I crossed some beautiful sites, which then I was going to visit, when I had some free time. There was this lake full of swans and ducks and then there was this bridge, where there was another lake or river or something like that and they were pretty awesome landscapes, I must say. But I was going to someplace else and I didn’t have time to see those places very well at that time.

After some time of fast walking, I was nearby the Round Tower and there was this church, which was just in front of the café, however, I couldn’t really see the café there nearby and I thought, that I went to the wrong place. Then it turned out, that there was this reconstruction thing going on there and that exact road was no longer available, which was supposed to get me to the Paludan café, so that I had to go to another road and then turn right. And just right then I saw this sign of Paludan café and I was pretty happy about it. And I decided to wait for other people, because I couldn’t see anyone familiar around there.

After a couple of minutes, one of our students came out of Paludan café and asked me why I didn’t go inside and when I told her, that I thought, that nobody was there yet, she told me, that almost everyone was already inside, so that we went inside, too and I saw plenty of our students sitting around the tables, chatting and having fun while waiting for their orders, which was already ordered, as we had chosen our dishes beforehand, of course.

Dining at Paludan café

Well, everything was settled, and we even had this cold water brought while we were waiting for our orders, and that was a pretty nice thing, if you ask me. And we knew, that though the dinner was free for us, we should have bought drinks for ourselves if we wanted any. And we wanted to have some drinks, so that we decided to go to the bar and see what they had to offer us. And I knew, that they had this student discount on 500 ml beerthere and since most of us wanted to have a beer, I told them about this thing and we decided to have some beer. Though we had to show the bartender our student cards, which some of us didn’t have, but we still managed it, I mean, the bartenders were not that crazy about showing them our student cards and they could just let us have the beer. Some of us didn’t’ order beer and they had some wine or martini and they enjoyed their drinks.

Soon our orders came and I didn’t really expect the portions to be so large.I mean, they were so large, that they could be eaten by three people, I guess. everything was really large and I knew, that I couldn’t finish my portion, however, I would still try, of course, because I really don’t like, when people leave their dishes on plates.

copenhagen-day-6-_-paludan-bogcafe-72ef8

So, anyways, my dish came and it was very large, as I have already mentioned, however, it was very delicious, and, well, it had lots of chicken fillets and that’s what I liked very much. This thing was worth ordering! And the beer was pretty good, too. Besides, this 500 ml beer was 30 DKK or something like that with the student discount!

copenhagen-day-6-_-paludan-bogcafe-09d1d

Well, of course, we chatted about many things, but mostly the medicine and the student life in our countries and stuff like that. They had some awesome desserts at the Paludan café, however, we couldn’t really have them our portions were so large! I tried, but I couldn’t even finish my Tagliatelle, so that I had some of it left, still.

copenhagen-day-6-_-paludan-bogcafe-c0ae8

People were getting ready to leave, as it was already dark outside and they wanted to go home, however, someone suggested going to someplace else with live music and stuff and some of us got interested in the suggestion, and, besides, the place was just nearby, where they would have some good live music and cozy environment, so that we decided to pay a visit there in a nearby café.

So, in all, we had a really nice evening there at the Paludan café and if I lived in Copenhagen, I would probably visit it a lot, because you can just sit there for yourself and read a book or just hang out with your friends or have a nice dinner and enjoy the environment.
