A Rainy Day In Como

Published by flag-gr Paul Dikaios — 6 years ago

One of the most beautiful lakes in Europe and the third largest in Italy, Como is 40 km. North of Milan - within one hour.

Preferred destination of famous personalities of the 19th century, when European authors and artists "discovered " and loved the place that gave them generously, inspired by the unparalleled beauty.

Around the lake is Bellagio, with its impressive villas, red geraniums planted with balconies, galleries and boutiques.

Around the lake is a traditional trattoria in the picturesque streets of Bellagio is the Barchetta (Salita Mella 13, tel. 51389 0039 0319 ), which serves local cuisine in a warm, friendly environment.

Next to the Duomo in Como, the historic restaurant Sociale (Via Rodari 6, tel. 64042 0039 0312 ) has greeted figures of major stardom from the nearby Teatro Sociale.

December in Como

Well, I went to como the first time in december and it was magnificent, I remember the weather was so cold that day, we were freezing but that didn't stop us from exploring the place, we went in a boat tour around the lake, we saw many places and villas, but what was magical at that moment the mountains, they were covered with snow all over the top in a beautiful magical way, like any fairy tale.

And we experienced la la funicolare, its like a small train that takes you up to the mountains it was great to see como from above, it was different, and I remember although the weather was freezing there and it was even colder above the mountain, but there was some people enjoying the tasty Ice creams there, I felt chilly then.

November experience

Any way I went again in this month in November because I wanted to see it in a warmer weather some how, it was also amazing, there were many people around with their families, many nationalities, many languages, every one taking photos to document this amazing place, and I also took a boat tour, but this time with a different boat cheaper and smaller one, but it was nice, and there was an old man who was telling us about the villas around the lake in italian language but I understood some of his descriptions, for example, George Clooney's Villa Oleandra when he filmed parts of his movie "Oceans Twelve" there. And I rememeber funny thing happened, when there was a guy who riding a motor in the lake he fell out in a funny way.

Also there is the city center like any other city here, that has many resturants and caffes, and the doumo there was beautiful.

And finally we walked around the lake, enjoying the beautiful view of the waves and the ducks there, we witnessed the beautiful charming sunset, when the sun raise reflect its beauty upon the waves of the lake..

Its a small place, and there isn't so much to see there, but it happens to be one of my favourite places in Italy, its charming intimate and so beautiful, I recommend every one to visit this place, its an opportunity of a life time.
