Erasmus experience in Como, Italy by Myriam

Why did you decide to go to Como?

I decided to come to Como because it is a very beautiful city, the people are very nice and I found an internship in Lugano. However, I prefer to live in Como and travel to Lugano every day. The railway service is excellent, efficient and I rarely have problems with delays.

How long does your study scholarship last? What economic support is given to you to deal with the costs?

I do not have a study scholarship because I am not a student, I am doing an internship.

What is the student lifestyle in Como?

As far as I’m concerned, I find the lifestyle to be really good; Como is a little city (previously I have been in Paris) where it is easy to go out without keeping an eye on the time. The lake, the mountains and the great Italian food all contribute to make the lifestyle very pleasant.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Como to other students?

I highly recommend the city because it is absolutely one of my favourite cities! To tell the truth about the university I do not know it.

How is the food?

Obviously there are Italian places that serve Italian food but there are places that offer different cuisines, including Sushi! :-)

Did you struggle to find accommodation in Como?

It was relatively easy and after a series of offers I could choose the best in terms of location and beauty.

How much does it cost to live in Como?

Excluding accommodation, I spend roughly €250 per month on food and the odd party.

For accommodation I saw some options for roughly €250 a month that are really nice (in university residence).

Is the language easy to understand? Are there language courses at the university?

As a Frenchman it was really easy for me to learn Italian.

What is the simplest and cheapest way to reach Como from your city?

From my city I have to get the train to Milan and therefor the train Milan/Como. It takes me roughly 5 hours in total.

Where would you recommend going out for a night out in Como?

To MadeClub! Sometimes I also like to go to Milan to take part in the nights out.

And to eat? Can you recommend some restaurants in Como?

There are lots of places that offer an excellent aperitivo.

What are the cultural attractions to visit?

Milan is very close, but also Como centre and the city of the lake.
