Why did you choose to go to Cologne, Germany?

Because I wanted to improve my German skills in a big city.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

The scholarship lasts 7 months, I receive 260€ per month from my home University.

What is the student lifestyle like in Cologne?

Courses at the University are completely disorganized! Concerning the spare time, there are a lot of green areas in Köln for picnics or jogging and, if it rains, there are also many museums and nice pubs.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Cologne to other students?

Yes, I would recommend it... But I am really not satisfied with the organization of classes at the University!

What is the food like?

It's tasty, there are a lot of Arabian, Cuban and Greece restaurants where you can also taste international meals! Otherwise you can taste local food in any Brauhaus.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Cologne?

Yes, it's really difficult to find an accommodation in Köln

How much does it cost to live in Cologne?

Köln is not excessively expensive, there are also affordable reductions for students

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

For me yes, but I've been studying German for 8 years... Anyway, German courses are available at the University, but places are extremely reduced.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Cologne from your city?

By plane... Not the cheapest but the easiest!

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Cologne?

Anywhere in Zülpicher Straße! There are a lot of nice pubs.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Cologne?

Früh am Dom for typical German food.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

A lot! The Dome, the Rathaus, a lot of museums... Köln is full of cultural sites.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Cologne in the future?

If you are willing to find an accommodation in a student dormitory you better send your request 6 or 5 months earlier than your arrival!
