How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

Since I am not from the European Union, I do not receive the scholarship normal Erasmus students receive.

What is the student lifestyle like in Cologne?

It is amazing. There is always something to do. If you are into clubs, there are tons from which you can select, even depending on your music taste, there is definitely something for everyone. If you are more into bars, there are also some really nice bars you can just go hang out at and drink a Kölsch. In Cologne Carnival is everything, so prepare to hear typical german karnival songs and when karnival kicks in, get ready to party and dress up. If you are not really a party person, that is totally fine, there are also many other activities you can find, Cologne is a big city and has many entertainment options, you are never going to get board, and if you do, there are many close cities you can visit for a weekend trip.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Cologne to other students?

Didn´t went to University of Cologne.

What is the food like?

Bread is typically eaten here. Food is not my favorite part about germany, however you can find nice restaurants with international food. Also, supermarkets have a vast options of international foods, so you´ll find something you like and can eat.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Cologne?

Yes, Cologne accommodation options are limited, specially since it is a big city, to find something centric and not that expensive it is difficult.

How much does it cost to live in Cologne?

My apartment costs around 500 euros a month, with bills included. It is about 10 min away from the center by tram, which is good because trams run constantly during the day, at night it can be a problem tho. Clubs entry fees are around 5- 7 euros, and how much you spend in the club depends on how much you drink. A glass of Kölsch in a bar is around 1. 5 euros.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

There are language courses at the university. You can survive with English tho, I don´t speak german and I survived.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Cologne from your city?

Students get a public transport card. You´ll move with the tram or bus everywhere.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Cologne?

Zülpicher Platz - perfect place to start the night. It is full of students, so at the same time there are plenty of bars there.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

  • Chocolate Museum
  • Cathedral
  • Bridge with locks (next to the cathedral)
