Which are the most enjoyable parks in Cologne?
There are many areas in the heart of Cologne where you can relax and make the most of both the weather and scenery. As you can see from the photo of Köln Triangle (a panoramic view which I will touch upon later), Cologne is a very green city. As far as I remember, there isn't a single street which doesn't have at least one tree. I am now going to tell you about the places that I enjoyed the most:
The first is a park called Hiroshima Nagasaki Park which is not far from the city centre and the university. There are often people who go there to sunbathe, to run and even to have barbecues with their friends. That's right, our German friends can have barbecues in public parks. If you would like to do this, you can buy disposable barbecues in Rewe (pronounced reve) or even in certain Kiosks. There are also bins specifically for these barbecues.
Another nice area is located on the right bank of the Rhine (the Deutz side for the experts) and is easy to get to. When you are at the Dom head towards the Hohenzollerbrücke which is the bridge used by the trains and is behind the cathedral. Go over the bridge and you will see some "steps" on which you can sit and admire the old city, the cathedral, as well as the pretty bridges surrounding it.
Finally, for those who would like to relax in this old city, there is a place located between the Hohenzollerbrücke and the Deutzer on the left bank of the Rhine. This is a very nice area! You can take a seat on one of the many terraces that are in this area. Here, you can enjoy ice creams, ice lollies as well as crêpes. A stroll along the Rhine is also very enjoyable.
There is a well known park called Rheinpark, north of the Deutz neighbourhood, that I wasn't able to spend a lot of time in. However, I had the chance to see it and it is definitely worth a trip!
Nevertheless, I think there are other enjoyable parks. Cologne is a very big city and the parks that I have mentioned are quite close to the centre, making them easy to get to.
