What is it like to live in Cape Town? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Cape Town is an exciting city with around 3 million people living in the city bowl. I will recommend it 100 percent.
What is the student lifestyle like in Cape Town?
Student life is great because the city has several universities and colleges therefore the lifestyle is geared for students.
How much does it cost to live in Cape Town?
It is much cheaper than living in Europe. For instance, a room in Europe can cost between 400-700 euros this is the equivalent of ZAR6000-10500. Whereas the same room will cost between ZAR3000-5000 in the City of Cape Town and even cheaper outside the city bowl.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Cape Town? Is there any advice you can give?
It's not difficult. AirBnb is very popular. There are a number of hosting families that accommodate students at the prices I mention above.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Food is very international you can find most countries dishes. Traditional food in Cape Town is various seafood and meat dishes. You should not leave CT without trying the fish called "snoek", which is only found in the sea waters surrounding CT and it is sold in traditional fisheries shops with chips.
What places would you recommend visiting in Cape Town?
Table Mountain is a must. Robben Island to see Nelson Mandela's prison. There are also various mountain trails. the aquarium at the waterfront is another fab experience. 30 minutes outside the city is the fabulous country side with various wine farms to visit. There are also game parks. Don't leave without seeing the townships to see how the other half lives and experience traditional African food and beer.
Is it good to eat out in Cape Town? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Yes, there are many choices all over the City. Favorite spots includes the waterfront, Greenpoint, Seapoint.
Is the nightlife good in Cape Town? Where is good to go?
Yes, it's fabulous. Long street is the place to be for students and tourists alike. Many clubs bars and restaurants with non stop fun.
What advice would you give future students heading to Cape Town?
Staying in the city is more expensive. Rather live 15 minutes away in University Estate, Walmer Estate, Observatory, Mowbray. These are the areas that are most cost effective. Transport to the city is easy with the MyCiti bus and the combi-taxi. There is also Uber which cost around 3-4 euros.
