Experience in Canterbury, United Kingdom by Suzy
What is the student lifestyle like in Canterbury?
Canterbury has the highest Student to Resident ratio in Europe, and you can tell! A lot of the city's activities are centred around students and the student year, such as club nights, and discount events at the local city shopping centre - Whitefriars.
How much does it cost to live in Canterbury?
Canterbury is quite expensive as it is in the south, but I am sure it is comparable with other similarly sized towns in southern England.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Canterbury? Is there any advice you can give?
There is a large amount of student accommodation in Canterbury, provided by both private landlords (please try and choose a verified landlord!!) and universities. For your first year definitely 100% live on campus or in halls, it improves the experience so much.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is pretty standard, there are a few outstanding restaurants such as Deeson's which is a (expensive) example of great British food, and also Café Des Amis, which is a Mexican French fusion restaurant (and has a student discount).
What places would you recommend visiting in Canterbury?
Everything! There is a lot to do in a small radius, especially in the city centre, with the Cathedral, the castle, and the Canterbury Tales Visitor Centre!
