Experience in Canterbury, United Kingdom by Lauren

What is it like to live in Canterbury? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It's definitely a city but small enough to still feel homely.

What is the student lifestyle like in Canterbury?

Lots of students around as there are 2 universities and many 6th forms, so always things going on.

How much does it cost to live in Canterbury?

Fairly expensive as it's in the commuter belt (so lots of people live there and then commute to London everyday) this raises the prices, particularly housing prices

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Canterbury? Is there any advice you can give?

Always student accommodation around, I would say to always look round the property first, as they'll say 3 bedroom and it will be 1 bedroom, a sitting room converted to a bedroom and a cupboard with a bed wedged in. That being said I've lived in some lovely places

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

I'm vegan and it was so easy to find food (if you are too check out Monument and the Veg Box) Loads of chain restaurants as well as independent cafes, won't be hard to find food you like.

Is the nightlife good in Canterbury? Where is good to go?

Main club is called Chemistry, Wednesday is the main student night for Christ Church uni. But is always busy Friday and Saturday with people from all over. Smaller places that are popular are Cuban which is a bar really with a bit of a dance floor and Tokyo Tea Rooms.
Venue on the Kent campus is also nice. Wednesdays are a good student night, it's not too big and has a friendly vibe.
