Experience in Canterbury, United Kingdom by Chrysoula
What is it like to live in Canterbury? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
It is a beautiful little town, quiet and green, great for people who love nature; it is after all the ''garden of England'' as they call it. There are quite a few things to do and see even if it is small and it is easy to get to other cities like London.
What is the student lifestyle like in Canterbury?
Student life in Canterbury is great, less stressful than it would be in a big city. A great part of the population are students and many are international as well which makes Canterbury a very interesting place to be in.
How much does it cost to live in Canterbury?
That depends on the person and on how much one can spend but it is not too expensive if one knows where to shop for instance and if one has a pass for transportation.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Canterbury? Is there any advice you can give?
There is campus accommodation offered but I found off-campus accommodation through websites mainly.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is alright. There are many restaurants with different cuisines as well so there is variety. Of course one has to try fish and chips and tea!
What places would you recommend visiting in Canterbury?
The Cathedral is beautiful, Marlowe theatre, the historical river tours, the Canterbury tales and of course the many parks of the Canterbury.
Is it good to eat out in Canterbury? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
There are many choices available, italian, japanese, turkish etc. My favourite would be Cafe des Amis which has great food and is in a good location near the river and a park.
Is the nightlife good in Canterbury? Where is good to go?
There are many pubs in Canterbury and some of them have live music which is really nice. It is quite lively for a small city.
What advice would you give future students heading to Canterbury?
It is a beautiful place to be in and I would suggest future students to make the most of it, travel to see the south of England and even other European countries like France to which one can get easily.
