Erasmus Experience in Canterbury, United Kingdom by Yolanda
Why did you choose to go to Canterbury, United Kingdom?
I chose to go to Canterbury, because despite being a small city, there are many things to do and visit. It is near to London (fifty minutes by train, an hour and a half by bus). Moreover, as it is in the south of England the weather is not that bad.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My scholarship last 5 months althought I will be in canterbury for 9 months. They offer me 400€/month which is a total of 2000€
What is the student lifestyle like in Canterbury?
Canterbury is small, so there are just two main discos (Chemistry and The Cuban), which are quite good. However, there are many pubs, shops, and cafes.
The great majority of the population of Canterbury (around 70%) are students, so this city is designed for us. Moreover, it is also a very safe place to life.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Canterbury to other students?
If your main objective is to learn English, this city is ideal. However, if you just want to have fun, it might not be the best choice. At least, in Canterbury Christ Church University, where I study, you have to work hard. We have free time to have fun out, of course, but you need to study too.
What is the food like?
To be honest, the good is not very good and it is expensive.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Canterbury?
The university offered me to choose between 7 or 8 residences, so I had many options.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Canterbury?
I recommend you Wheterspoon, it is really cheap and the perfect place to drink and eat with friends.
