Experience in Campina Grande, Brazil by Paul

What is it like to live in Campina Grande? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

It is much like Tijuana Mexico 30 years ago without the beach but with the current high crime rate. My sister in law who is a police officer here in Campina Grande was robed of her purse, watch and cellphone and a street side restaurant along with all the other patrons eating there. Three gun men made quick work and road with 3 compatriots as drivers on motorcycles. The roads are bad with speed bumps so police cars are at a disadvantage. Most robberies are from the back of a motorcycle. My sister in law keeps her gun in the car as most robberies are by multiple people 3 to 8. You have to be aware of your surroundings and don't carry a lot of money or all your credit cards on you. The food is great and the people a friendly but everyone worries about the crime rate.

Easy to find an apartment.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Just look up Northeaster Brazilian food. They like cooking with dried salt beef so I like chick or fish more. The fruit here is better than Costa Rica, Panama and the oranges are better than California of Florida. They do not know how to make pizza anywhere here that includes Natal, Recife and Joao Pessoa. If you dont mind the taste of Frozen pizza you will be fine.
