Registering with Cádiz University
I feel like registering with Cádiz University should earn me a degree on its own! First of all you had to visit the International Office and hand over your acceptance letter (if you had one) and European Health Insurance Card. If, like me, you didn’t have an acceptance letter then you simply found your name on the list which corresponded to a number, then the woman behind the desk found your folder, that is if it was there. Mine was not, so I left her with my e-mail address and she promised to send me a message when my folder was ready, I never received one.
After a week of waiting for my e-mail I decided to try again, this time I had more luck, my folder was ready and after I signed to confirm my personal details were correct. The lady behind the desk then asked me if I had a confirmation of arrival letter that needed to be returned to my home university, I did, but had not got a copy of it with me, so promised to come back with it later. The folder contained information on CSLM courses, how to access university WiFi, how to access university e-mail, my UCA online information, as well as a form that I had to complete with my tutor, confirming my classes.
First stop was to the Library in my Faculty where I had to provide details of my home address as well as my address here in Cádiz in order to get a sticker on my Cádiz Student Card, presumably for use in the library. The Librarian gave me several pamphlets on the library, which I will get round to using at some point as they will probably be useful. I then had to the scanner where I scanned my newly stickered card, a copy of which I would need to hand in to the secretary along with a copy of my confirmed classes, once I had been to see my tutor. So next stop my tutor to confirm my classes and get them signed off, then to the Secretary to hand it in along with the copies of my Cadiz Student Card. You then have to return a few days later to get a copy of your classes which I assume is final confirmation that it is all approved.
Further to this you have to return confirmation of arrival and then updated contact information back to your home institution. As well as this you need to go to the local town hall to register your residence in the country if you are from outside Spain.
Getting yourself an ESN card is a whole different story, remember to bring passport sized photos for your card which costs £5 and can be purchased from the ESN stand next to the International office stand in the university. These are well worth getting as they allow cheaper drinks in certain places and allow you to go on the ESN trips!
So if you aren’t completely worn out after all of that, which takes a few days, then go out and enjoy Cádiz and all it has to offer.
