Cadiz - one day trip
Cadiz - What is worth seeing in this city?
Cadiz is for sure one of the cities in Spain that you have to see while living there on your Erasmus - at least that is what everyone have told me. Do I agree with that? Cadiz was really beautiful but I think there are way better places to see while living in Spain (though maybe it is just my opinion).
I have visited Cadiz while I was travelling with my friends. In previous post I mentioned how we have rented the car and choose to see some wonderful cities located in the south part of Spain. Sevilla, Bolonia, Tarifa were on our list just as Cadiz. In this post I am going to talk about this city, what is worth seeing here and how much I liked it.
We stayed in Cadiz for the night so in total we had two days to visit this city (the next day we were living in the afternoon) but to be honest, there is not a lot to do here. The city itself is really beautiful and the views are amazing but it is possible to see everything you should in just one day. So if you are thinking about going on a trip for one day, Cadiz is that kind of city.
When it comes to weather I have heard the city is overall a warm one, though we have been travelling during winter - in December 2017. Because of that the temperature was more or less 14 degrees from what I remember and it was really windy. We were all the time tired and cold because of it and we couldn't fully enjoy our trip there.
Cadiz - the city
If you are checking out how Cadiz looks on the map you can see that to see the main part of the centre you basically need to take a walk around the city by the sea. If you like walking - then that will be the best option for you to fully visit this city. There is absolutely no need to go by car somewhere or even take a bus. (When it comes to car finding a place to leave a car is just terrible. So once you do have your spot - leave the car there and go by walk. We were having problems with finding the place in December so I am not sure how it looks like during summer for tourist, my guess - terribe).
What should I see in Cadiz?
One of the best places we have seen was Castle of San Sebastian (Castillo de San Sebastian). It is located at the end of the beach La Caleta and to get there you have to go through the Paseo Fernando Quinones. The walk through this road was one of the best things I remember from this city - the view on whole beach and the city is amazing, there are plenty of rocks where you can sit for a second - enjoy the view and have a rest. At the end of this road you can see the big castle. It is really great place to take the pictures, even though the wind sometimes is trully terrible (especially if you are travelling during winter just as we have done it).
Then after seeing this Castle and the beach (La Caleta) you have to go by the street Av. Campo Del Sur. Here we have seen a lot of people doing sports such as rollerblading or running. It is the great place for doing sports here. Going through this street you see amazing view not only on Cadiz Cathedral (Cadiz Nueva) but also on Parroquia de Santa Cruz. This view is almost on every possible postcard from this city and it is indeed breathtaking.
The next place which I loved so much was the main Catherdal in the city which is called Catedral Nueva (Cadiz Cathedral). This building really is outstanding and it is one of the places you for sure have to see while visiting Cadiz. It is located in the centre of the city. I think the Catedral Nueva and the Castle of San Sebastian were the best monuments I have seen during my short visit in Cadiz.
In the picture you can see the Cadiz Cathedral. The Catherdal is really beautiful but there is one big disadvantage - it is impossible to take a picture of the whole building! Which for every fan of photography - that was just a disaster. (I did love it so much, the shame is though I don't have a picture of this whole incredible building).
Another place that you have to see while visiting Cadiz is for sure Parque Genoves. It is amazing place to just have a rest and relax a bit. Lots of different types of flowers are growing here and the whole park is really wellkept. The trees here are also cut in different shapes. Below on the picture you can see the path in Parqgue Genoves at night. It was truly amazing view.
